Raise awareness of bronchitis in babies

Donation protected
I want to raise money for ward 25 at kings Mill Hospital on behalf of my son Tyler (4 weeks old) who spent Christmas Eve and Christmas morning on Ward 25. I want the money to go towards helping the children get better and providing things such as presents over Christmas. The support would mean a lot as if it was not for Ward 25 my 4 week old son would not have been here to see his First Christmas. Please Read Tyler's Story Below.

I want to raise awareness for Bronchitis in babies after my 4 week old son Tyler nearly didn't see his First Christmas and i'd like to try and raise £500 on Tyler's behalf to give to Ward 25 at Kings Mill Hospital who played a big part in saving my son. Tyler caught Bronchitis unassumingly off his brother (5) who was poorly at the time. But what we didn't know is just how badly thing's were about to get. Early hours of Sunday morning (23/12/2018) Tyler became very sleepy, would not take a feed, physically could not cry and was finding it hard to breath we rushed him down to Kings Mill Hospital who rushed him straight into Resuscitation after his SATS showed 73/192 he was put on oxygen via a mask, placed under a heater and had his bloods taken. A Doctor took us up to ward 25 after his bloods come back positive for Bronchitis. After holding my lifeless baby up to the Ward they placed him on oxygen through a nose tube. They told me to try feeding him as he didn't feed for at least 10hours. He found the strength to take 30ML after normally taking 120ML-150Ml a feed but he threw that back up within minutes. The Nurse came in to insert a feeding tube and he started to deteriorate very quickly worrying the Nurse as his SATS dropped to 63/199. So they placed the oxygen over his face via the mask and quickly got his feeding tube in but he still could not breath so they suctioned all the mucus from his stomach and nose. His SATS were still sat very low and the Doctors and Nurses started to panic because his Temperature was 38.6 and started to investigate as to why he was not improving but infact getting worse on oxygen. Tyler had more bloods taken after 4 attempts to get his cannula in because his hands and feet were so cold. We had Doctors and Nurses in our room every two minutes checking on Tyler and at 3am Monday morning it got worse and i had no tears left to cry. The Doctors did an Emergency X-Ray which showed Tyler's right lung had collapsed through not being able to breath for so long and an infection had already took its place on his lung. So the Doctors placed him on warm Oxygen so he didn't have to work so hard giving him a little break and then administered antibiotics into his cannula for the infection on his lung as it is bacterial and the bronchitis is viral so can not be treated. The Doctors started talking about life support with us to allow his body getting the break it needed so he could heal without doing anything for himself. On Monday afternoon we were told we would not be home for Christmas which we knew anyway but what upset me more is the fact i wouldn't be with both my children on Christmas day. What happened next is extraordinary or as i call it a Christmas day miracle. The antibiotics started to kick in and Tyler came fighting back with vengeance. He started to bottle feed again, he was able to cry just a little bit and his SATS were showing as normal 98/165. Over the next 12Hours he began being weaned off his oxygen and the Nurses had faith in Tyler and said "we will have him off oxygen by morning" early hours Christmas morning they tuned off Tyler's Oxygen. He kept dropping to 83/195 but he needed him to be at 90/175 at least. They gave him a chance and eventually caught his much needed breath his SATS were showing 91/186 and within hours his SATS were showing normal at 98/165. Christmas morning 10am exact they took out all Tyler's tubes and said at 1pm we could go home for a couple of hours but had to come back at 9pm for his antibiotics via his cannula and to stay abit longer for obs. When we got back to hospital Tyler's SATS were still normal 98-99/165 and his bloods came back negative meaning he could now take antibiotics orally at 11:30pm we were told to go home. So in just over 48hours Tyler has gone from nearly needing life support to being home at Christmas as content as can be. None of this would have happened if it was not for Ward 25's Positiveness and determination towards getting Tyler home just in time for Christmas. BRONCHITIS can kill our babies so very easily so please be aware of the signs and symptoms because it all starts with a simple cold. Even if you think it's just a cold it could be more. Seek Medical advice as soon as possible. Thank you for taking your time in reading Tyler's story even if it is just a penny you donate it all goes to such a good cause. Keeping our children alive and happy especially over the Christmas season.
