Jaclyn & Kelly's Fertility Journey

Donation protected
Our names are Jaclyn and Kelly Pfeiffer, and this is our story…
We met in 2012 and started in dating in 2014. In March of 2015, we were both fired for sexual orientation, and even though only a couple close friends knew about our relationship, we were forced to come out quickly due to all of the media coverage. Our relationship not only survived a situation that could have torn us apart, but it made us stronger. We learned to be okay with who we are, rather than hiding our true identities, Through a horrible situation, we met some amazing people and the door was opened to some really great opportunities to educate others on the need for inclusion and to advocate against discrimination of LGBTQ+ people in the workplace.
Our relationship continued to grow, and we were engaged in August of 2015. Shortly after, we had the opportunity to take part in a local news story about the fight to allow same-sex couples to list both parents’ names on their baby’s birth certificate. This prompted the realization that we both wanted to begin the journey to being Mom & Mommy. We began researching our options, and in January of 2016, we did our first IUI. This cycle failed, as did the next, and the next, and the next, and the next, and the next.
After a full year of IUIs, fertility medications, period tracking, symptom charting, and lots and lots of negative pregnancy tests, we met with a Reproductive Endocrinologist. We got bad news and good news, a plan, and price quote. The bad news was that IVF would be our best option, which financially was out of reach. The good news was that this opened the door for the option of reciprocal IVF, which would allow us both to be more involved in the process. We also learned that neither of us had any issues that would prevent us from carrying a pregnancy. The issue was in getting pregnant. The plan was to each do an egg retrieval, fertilize both of our eggs with the same donor, and then freeze all the embryos that made it to day 5. Kelly would then carry Jaclyn’s embryo, and shortly after, Jaclyn would carry Kelly’s. After talking this over, we both felt like this was our best option. We love the idea of each carrying a pregnancy, of each being biologically related to one of our babies, and of the babies being biologically related to each other. We were excited and ready to get started, except for one major issue…$40,000. We are a typical middle-class couple who can afford to raise our children , but unlike traditional couples, we cannot get pregnant the natural (free) way. We have good jobs – Jaclyn is a teacher and Kelly is a nurse - but we long to be Moms.
We had kept our fertility journey mostly private until recently, when we decided to share it with close friends. Now, we have chosen to go public in hopes that maybe a doctor who has the means to offer free or reduced-cost IVF to us might hear our story, or maybe there is someone out there who knows the pain of having a baby-sized hole in your heart and is now in a position to help someone else, or maybe our friends and family can contribute what they are able and it will add up to what we need to get started on the next part of this journey.
Thank you in advance to everyone who is able to help us
either by sharing our story or contributing financially.

We appreciate it more than you will ever know.
