Hi! We are Sarina Baloh and Emilia Randell. Coming from a developed country we both have an understanding of the importance education played in our lives and the countless opportunities we are given as a result of education. We believe all children should be given the same opportunities however the reality is that for many children around the world, this is not the case, through no fault of their own. There are however many organisations that are striving to achieve this goal.
RAEY Foundation is a perfect example of an organisation that understands not only the importance of education but extends itself to the wider community by strengthening families and the community through income-generating projects, material aid, medical treatment and extensive educational programs. RAEY is a community school for children whose families suffer from extreme poverty and illness and care for orphan children. If RAEY did not exist many of its students would go without regular meals, education or support.
In July 2016 I (Emilia Randell) visited the school of RAEY and was blown away by the work which RAEY does with not only for its students but for the students’ families and wider community. Sarina and I will both be teaching for a week in the school in early July 2018. We are self-funded and all funds raised will be going directly to the cause that we feel so passionate about.
Our Fundraising Goal: Our goal is to raise $5000 for RAEY Foundation. Funds raised will be used to support the critical areas of:
• Healthcare: consisting of immunisations, medicines, and blood tests to establish HIV status;
• Shelter: repairs needed to water tanks, eating and play areas.
• Food: two nutritional meals are supplied daily as often the children helped by RAEY have not eaten for days at a time. With most children suffering from HIV or tuberculosis, the nutritional needs are significant, and provision of good food is essential to limiting disease progression.
• Essential supplies including clothing, blankets, toothbrushes and soaps that are always needed as most families sleep directly on dirty floors and have no warmth.
