Change the world with #racismstinks

Tax deductible
Our goal is to collect $15,000 to fuel our organization's change-making agenda! We are a dedicated group of regular people working to unite the community under the banners of Love, Equality, and Cultural Understanding. We believe that education combats racism. The more experiences you share with different people and knowledge you have of different cultures the less likely you are to be afraid of them. This practice eliminates the foul stench we call racism and fosters genuine community, which like a deep breath of fresh air removes anxiety and energizes us to carry on in our journey to truly becoming united. We are launching our after school program called the Skunk Academy. The Skunk Academy will introduce the youth of our city to a variety of different cultures through relationship building activities. Monday: Neighbor to Neighbor community enrichment, Tuesday: language arts (poetry writing, reading, and music), Wednesday: creative expression from various cultures of our diverse local community, Thursday: physical health and mental development, Friday: financial literacy and entrepreneurship to address the societal divides.  RacismStinks is in Tulsa, OK, one of America’s most racially divided and culturally challenged cities. The roots of the damaged race relations are deep in Tulsa’s soil. Fourteen (14) years after Oklahoma’s statehood and over 50 years after the end of slavery Tulsa was the host of America’s worst racial massacre of all time. Our city is still suffering from the devastating effects of this horrific incident nearly a century later. The most affluent African American community this nation has ever seen, the celebrated “Black Wall Street” was burned to ashes during the racially charged attacks. The dressing which masked these unhealed wounds has been painfully ripped off by our city’s induction into the list of recent officer-involved shootings that inflame racial tensions. To sustain the resilience of Tulsa and its diverse community, RacismStinks is working to better community-police relations through communication sessions with law enforcement that help to humanize the citizen instead of the perception of a threat/target, suspect, or subject. Acknowledging that this is a two-pronged issue we also host community gatherings centered on solution seeking and officer humanization to remove the perception of an officer being just a badge, gun, and uniform to achieve more civil outcomes. These activities serve to reduce the number of fatalities in officer-civilian interactions and build sustainable trust between both parties. It takes us all.  If you only give once a month, please think of us next time. The people who believe in Tulsa, the civilians, politicians, students, business owners, volunteers, police officers, veterans and more will be banding together once again on Saturday, May 26th for our “4th Annual Race Against Racism Skunk Run.” This is Tulsa’s unifying 5k and 3k fun-run. We commemorate the spirit of the Greenwood district and symbolize our promise to each other to move forward as a city undivided. By trotting this historic route together on the very lines of division, we are redefining the course of our tragedy, never forgetting where we came from, but moving forward towards Reconciliation. #racismstinks "Together We Will Change The World."
