After waiting over a year for insurance approval, Rachel will be having surgery at UTMB in Galveston on Wednesday October 31st. Over the past 3 years she has been faced with various hardships including being diagnosed with a female autoimmune disease called Lichen Sclerosus as well as Rheumatoid Arthritis and Fibromyalgia. After seeing multiple physicians and trying various treatment plans, Rachel was finally able to get an answer along with a realistic treatment plan. Much to her surprise, a portion of the area is in fact cancer "squamous cell carcinoma" which will need to be removed immediately as it has continued to spread. On the 31st, she will undergo removal of the skin cancer along with both of her groin lymph nodes. The Oncologist strongly felt that it was necessary to remove the lymph nodes and send for biopsy to decide the next course of treatment after the surgical procedure.  Additionally, a plastic surgeon will reconstruct the area using a skin graft from her abdomen or her thigh. For those of you that have known Rachel for many years, she loves being outdoors riding her horses. Unfortunately these hardships have prevented her from being able to do all of the things that she loves. During this time she will face many financial difficulties with obtaining her medications, treatments and she will be required to make various trips to Galveston to assist with her recovery process. She is ready for answers, the recovery process and is willing to fight this! Please provide any prayers, love and support in any way that you are able.

"Faith-it does not make things easy, it makes them possible." Luke 1:37

Update on Rachel’s Story! 11/20/18

This is a very difficult update as Rachel’s plans for chemotherapy and radiation have had to come to a halt. On Friday she attended her post-operative surgical follow-up. Her incisions were healing great and her staples as well has both surgical drains were removed. Unfortunately, that was the only good that came from that appointment. Regrettably Rachel was informed by her doctor that her county insurance had been maxed out and there were simply no funds available for her to receive the chemotherapy and radiation treatment as originally planned. She proceeded to tell Rachel that there was nothing more that she could do for her other than hope that she can find a way to cover the cost of the treatments which could potentially start around $50k. Even though Rachel has a determined group of family and friends who are reaching out to find and coordinate coverage, funds and support, she still needs more support, love and prayers from everyone! Rachel is left in pain. It hurts her to stand, walk and even sit. We have complete trust in God that Rachel will be able to soon get her treatments and fully heal from this unfortunate cancer.

For those of you interested in upcoming events and strategies to help us raise money for Rachel’s fight, I will soon create a page to keep everyone up to date as well as informed about upcoming events.

For now, we have t-shirt sells going on. These proceeds will in fact go to Rachel to help her start her much needed treatments right away without any further delay! If you are interested in t-shirts please follow our link or e-mail fightwithrachel@gmail.com. A PayPal account has also been set up under the same e-mail address for payment. T-shirts start at $20 with an additional $5 if you would like glitter.

11/7/18 Update:
Rachel is home recovering from surgery #1. She is doing well, just trying to remain positive. Her follow-up appointment is scheduled for Friday November 16th. We are hoping to find out more information about our chemo and radiation plan. We truly appreciate the outpouring of love, support, prayers and donations. We are still trying to raise money for Rachel to help with medical expenses during this difficult time. Please help if you are able and please feel free to share- after all, every little bit helps! Thank you again!

Update:
Rachel's surgery did not go as well as we had hoped. The squamous cell carcinoma was much larger than we originally thought and 2 out of 6 lymph nodes were positive. Due to this finding, the Oncologist changed the course of treatment to include a low dose of chemotherapy along with radiation 5 days a week for 6-7 weeks to her vulva and her pelvis. We pray that this will shrink the area so that the surgeon can successfully remove the area without compromising her urinary system or take care of the entire carcinoma. This process will be long and treacherous. We are raising money to help with the various medical expenses as well as transportation costs as she will have to be at UTMB Galveston for these treatments. Any help would be greatly appreciated during this difficult time. We thank each and every one of you for your outpouring of love, prayers and support. May God bless you all!
