Race For Nilo & Race For Jocelyn

The first two editions of the Race For Nilo & Race For Jocelyn were amazingly successful.  The amount of greatness that was brought to life from these special cycling days in Toledo City truly was immeasurable.  This was clearly due to the many caring people who behind the scenes contributed to this effort and made it their own.  This GoFund page is set up now to bring the 3rd edition of the Race For Nilo & Race For Jocelyn to life on December 12, 2017 in Toledo City Philippines.

There are so many special stories from each edition of the Race For Nilo & Race For Jocelyn. Possibly the most inspiring & uplifting of all is the comeback to riding, training and racing of Nilo Barbalose. The original Race For Nilo was about showing respect and care toward Nilo who was taken out by a drunk driver while cycling.

Nilo was told he could never race again and his return to good general health was in question. The Race For Nilo inspired his drive to return to biking after so many of Cebu's best cyclists supported this competition in his name. Nilo worked hard on recovery both mentally and physically from the horrible accident and miraculously he was able to actually race the second year of the event & make the podium in his age group. Simply fantastic!

From being told by the doctor you might not ever ride again.  To working hard on his comeback & racing in the second edition of the event named after himself plus actually making the awards podium.... Nilo was the big winner by far from this project.

Nilo shown here in this photo, riding 3rd wheel and making the winning break-away in his age group. Solidifying his comeback from a devastating injury due to a drunk driver.

The Race For Jocelyn has developed into the premier one-day Road Cycling race in the Philippines for Women. The Women cyclists of the Philippines need opportunity and support of regional events to have a chance to compete. They simply do not have the equal chances as the Men to take part in races.

Jocelyn Miller, the beautiful 7 year old daughter of Professional racer Joseph Miller, had a dream to race like her talented father. Jocelyn just wanted to be like her Dad, racing and riding the bike and experience the thrill of victory and the fun challenge of attaining that goal.

Tragically Jocelyn lost her life to a mosquito bite and the resulting Dengue Fever. So to honor Jocelyn's life and dream of racing her bike the Race For Jocelyn was born. With the donations and contributions of all who took part in this campaign the Race For Jocelyn is now the richest one-day Road Cycling race for Women of the Philippines.

The Race For Jocelyn is now the feature event of the day, with the largest prize list of any group during all the day's competitions. The famous Corratec Team from Manilla got behind the Race For Jocelyn and they dedicated team budget to attend this race in Toledo City.   They went on to make it their own with stellar victories in both Women's divisions.  Philippines most famous Women's racer Marella Salamat was the overall winner and the fantastic Irish Yang Wong the Junior Women's race winner.

The Corratec Team and the other Women athletes of the Philippines have made the Race For Jocelyn a true classic event to pay respect to and honor Jocelyn Miller and her will & desire to compete on the bike.

Thank you to everyone, who in the past, has helped make the Race For Nilo & Race For Jocelyn the most amazing day for racing in Cebu Cycling.  The event touches so many in a positive manner and serves to motivate and inspire those who have the dream and wish to compete on their bikes.

The Race For Nilo & Race For Jocelyn only occurs in the streets of Toledo City because of the super caring and thoughtful people who contribute to this GoFund campaign. The donations allow the event to prosper and exceed expectations. Thank you to all the people who make this event their own & who join this cause...thus continuing to make the event super successful.

The free Kids Running Race was a big hit the past cycle day in Toledo City. The kids stole the show and demonstrated huge heart during the running competitions. For 2017 there will certainly be more Kids Running Races going on, with more prizes and more fiercely competitive young runners having a go!

Here are some of my favorite action shots & podium awards photos from the 2016 Race For Nilo & Race For Jocelyn.  All the racers who make the event in Toledo City have always raced with class and dignity which makes the competition fun and fast for all.

You can see the racing was full of passion and the winning celebrations dramatic and inspirational!

The advanced race groups were stacked with the very best athletes from the Cebu region of the Philippines. The most dedicated, talented and strongest racers were the ones who gained the most at the Race For Nilo & Race For Jocelyn.

The Women's racing has grown considerably from year to year at this event.  The 2017 version hopes to be the biggest number of Women racers yet for the Toledo City classic.

The awards ceremony is always the most fun part of the day!  Rewards for being top of class!

Thank you to all the people who support this cause and make dreams come true for so many of the top cycling athletes of Cebu & the Philippines.
