Texas Opry Theater Remodeling

The Texas Opry Theater in Weatherford, Texas is the creation and dream child of Jerry Carter. Jerry was born and raised in Weatherford in 1951, he started working and running movies in the local theaters, started playing music with his own country band The Chapparrals and selling advertising locally in a local Shopper. As a child he used to deliver newspaper up and down York Ave. and would ride by the York Ave. Baptist Church and always thought that the building did not look like a church, it looked like it should be a theater. Little did he know that in 1991 he and a partner would purchase the property and totally remodel it and open it as The Texas Opry Theater. He opened the theater in 1992 with a weekly "opry" show featuring local and regional amatuer singers and musicians, many of which have gone on to become well known and famous. In 1995 the partner became terminally ill and they found it necessary to discontinue the weekly shows for a while and rented the theater to a little theater group getting started and to several churches that have grown to be very large and influential in Weatherford until 2002 when Jerry and Marilyn Carter began bringing in shows featuring legendary singers and musicians on a monthly basis. Many of these artist have since passed on and it is a coveted memory to know that they performed on our stage at The Texas Opry Theater. Artist such as Ray Price, Little Jimmy Dickens, Cal Smith, Jack Green,  Billy Walker, Hank Locklin and Hank Thompson and many big names of legendary artist that are still with us today and are still being booked to perform at The Texas Opry Theater. Names such as Connie Smith, Bill Anderson, Larry Gatlin, Gene Watson, Moe Bandy, John Conlee and many many more. Over the years since then through the ups and downs of life as it goes and Jerry Carter has lost his vision to diabetes and wife Marilyn has taken on the full role of promoter and producer the shows have continued to this day on a monthly basis.
The opry has acquired the talents of a Top Notch House Band "The Amazing Made In Texas Show Time Band" and the talents of many local singers and performers such as Michael Hix, Carey Dyer, Bill Brooks, Lisa Layne and more.www.texasoprytheater.com
However, since 1992 the theater has not had a major renovation on the inside or out. In 2011 a new metal roof was added and paid for and in 2014 new sound & lighting/security systems, a new exterior sign, awnings and a partial painting was accomplished.  There are still many capital improvements that still need to be done that are very expensive. Our goal is to continue bringing in the name entertainment that our patrons want to see and keep our ticket prices down to an affordable level. And as the cost of everything keeps rising we would like to try to raise the funds outside of ticket sales to completely paint the exterior of the building, add a new digital marque sign and improve the parking lot to the south, we additionally want to replace the sound fold on the walls of the theater and put new stage curtains and backdrop curtains for improved accoustics. The front doors of the theater were irreparably damaged in a juvenile break-in a few years ago and they need to be replaced.
So therefore, this Go-Fund-Me account is being set up to hopefully assist in those endeavors.
We appreciate and Thank you in advance for whatever donations you feel that you could make toward these goals.
Sincerely
Marilyn and Jerry Carter
