To Fogo and Back Again

My mum is Elizabeth Ginn and she is a remarkable woman. She's an artist, a caregiver, a lover of animals and family and general badass of all things.
She's had a crazy busy exraordinary life and not one bit of it has come easily and not one bit of it has been wasted.
Mum's not so well these days, having battled with Renal Cell Carcinoma since January of last year. She's a kidney down, and metastasis to lungs last fall meant immunotherapy and all kinds of other drugs and treatments and complications.
Not that she'd ever let that get her down.
BUT things are not going great these days and we're starting to feel like time is of the essence. Mum's lifelong dream has been to travel to Fogo Island, and I want to make that happen for her. Queen of the road, she does not fly, and a road trip is in order.
Here's what I want to do, and I would love some help doing it: I'm taking some time off this summer to help care for her and with her doctors' permission, want to load her and boys up and hit the road to the East Coast.
Plans include visiting family in Ontario, and hitting the Maritimes. Mum hasn't been back to New Brunswick where she was born since she was 12 - and apart from a couple of visits in the 80's from family back east, hasn't seen anyone since we moved to Alberta in 1977. Her family goes back to Fogo and visiting has been something she's talked about as long as I can remember. She needs to visit Ginn's Store!
I can't swing this on my own. The EI I will be on while taking a family caregiver leave will take care of my basics, and Mum's CPP and Old age pension gets her by, but I figure we need at least $2500 to make this happen, to pay for gas and accommodation along the way. If we exceed the goal, we would love to rent a reliable camper for this adventure.
If you know us at all, you'll know we hate asking for help, and stubbornly insist on doing everything ourselves. This is too important for that. I hope you can help!
We'll be making art along the way, and posting travel updates. We'll set up some donor levels that may include original pieces of art!
