Artist Residency at Chateau d’Orquevaux May 2019

I am beyond excited to have been accepted as an Artist in Residence at the gorgeous Chateau Orquevaux in Champagne France!
Hundreds of artists from 32 countries countries applied for a residency at this beautiful chateaux & I was one of the few to be accepted!
I will be living in this devine place for 4 weeks with 9 other artists from around the world. Can you imagine the inspiration flowing with 10 artists in this magnificent place? Not to mention the amazing surroundings we will be living in! It’s all about stepping outside your comfort zone & immerse yourself in your art!
This is most definitely a dream come true for me and will inspire and challenge my art! This means my exhibition will take a back seat until I return invigorated and a much better artist with new experience and I’m sure many new friends that will all conspire to make my first ever exhibition even more amazing!
So I need your help my friends to help pay for air fares and materials. My residency is from May 2nd - 30th then I hope to travel to Venice for the Biennale as well as seeing the sights of France, Spain & London.
The Denis Diderot grant covers some of my expenses for the month which is great but I obviously need to cover the rest as well as still pay rent back home.

An exhibition of Art - My journey through life, love and loss!
Returning to my artistic roots in 2015 as a way to deal with my daughters illness. I had a back log of work in my brain that was bursting to get out. So I gave the makeup brushes a rest, bought some paint brushes and got to work - re familiarising myself with my old friends.
Since the death of my beautiful daughter, Star, from cancer in 2016 my art has taken on a darker side. While still beautiful, my paintings reflect the sadness and pain at the loss of my girl. Pouring my grief out onto the canvas, there is a reference to Star in every piece of art. Beautiful, haunting portraits of women, soul searching sadness, love and tears. Art has been my therapy and saviour! It has helped me find a way through this living nightmare and to commemorate the memory of Star Dawn.
Beauty is only skin deep but what darkness lies within our hearts? How life's journey can turn our innocent, empathetic hearts and engulf them in pain. From heartaches, breakup and what life throws at us! We are judged and labeled by society regardless of where we come from, who we are inside and what we do. Its all about aesthetics - how we look and what we wear. Can we ever be our true selves or do we just wear a mask of conformity?
I want to explore this facet of human nature. We all have something to hide. What mask of normality do we wear? How do we present ourselves to the world around us? What part does our belief system or religion play in how we deal with life, sex, child birth, loss? I want to explore our darkness - the labels that we attract as we go through life but bury deep inside because society can’t handle our true selves!
