Alyssa's Service Dog Fund

Hello, I want to first thank you for taking the time to read about my sweet Alyssa. Our story first begin about nine years ago when my other daughter, Savannah was diagnosed with diabetes. For several years, it was a roller coaster chasing numbers and she would drop in minutes, yet never felt it coming on until we were picking her up off the ground. She had 10 seizures at school because she, nor the teachers could tell when she was going low. Five years ago we got Magic, her service dog and he helps her know when those lows are coming on. He also knows her so well now that he will bark when she is too high. He has given our family such peace. She is able to play sports, go to a friends house and and enjoy all the things a 15 year old girl should enjoy.
Now on to Alyssa, a couple of months ago she told me that she wasn't able to see the soft at her game. She had a golf tournament and was so thirsty she couldn't get enough water to quench her thirst. And finally the last symptom was that she thought she was getting a bladder infections because of so many trips to the restroom. I feel terrible, especially as a mother to a type 1, that I didn't put any of these symptoms together, but she did. After not feeling well at her cheer practice, she asked her sister to use her tester and her fear turned to reality. She too had Type 1 diabetes and her numbers were over 600. Looking back, over the past month, we remember magic alerting her, but again, we weren't looking for it, therefore, we didn't recognize it. He started sleeping in her bed and walking up to her as she came off the softball field to sniff her. Now that we know, we have started rewarding him but we don't want him to take his focus off of her sister Savannah, who desperately needs him. We decided to get Alyssa her own dog. Although they are together a lot, they do not share the same classes and in reality they are separate people with separate lives and need separate life savers. Alyssa is 16 years old and wants the freedom of other 16 year olds despite this disease. She wants to get her drivers license and wants to go to friend's houses without the fear of not knowing when her numbers are dangerously low. We understand the responsibility, discipline and love it takes to own a service dog and would love for you to help make this a reality for her. Thank you and God Bless You, March
