R.O.W. for Santa Fe Railyard Park

Donation protected
(Please note: $425 figure was raised last summer for the Berg Park site; any figure above that number represents funds being raised for the Santa Fe version of the R.O.W. project.)

Last summer, thanks in part to your generous donations, I was able to install my R.O.W. (stands for "right-of-way") project in Berg Park. R.O.W. was in the ground for 2 weeks and then removed, leaving no trace. All in all, this project has been a great success. I was awarded a grant to produce a sort of training video for artists aspiring to also create self-initiated public artworks. Since then I have been applying for exhibitions based on this project at Durango Arts Center, 516 Arts (Albuquerque), Tucson Museum and elsewhere. I am also applying for grants to support these exhibitions. I am also planning other versions or locations for R.O.W. itself.

Speaking of which: This coming fall I will be installing a version of R.O.W. in Santa Fe's Railyard Park! I was invited to do this by the Railyard Art Committee after their last meeting in April.

Just as before, SF R.O.W. will be a straight, north-south line of surveyor stakes bisecting the park as if in preparation for a pipeline construction, and will again last from 2 weeks to a month, before being removed, leaving no trace. Also as before, I will alert the public that this is a symbolic act and not an actual first step in installing anything.

I shared this news with a San Juan College Geographic Information Systems professor and he decided to get one of his classes to get involved producing maps and illustrations of the site and project!

The Railyard Art Committee has awarded me an honorarium of $500.00 for the project! This will cover such costs as professional surveyor fees, supplies, signage and such. But we also need funds for travel. We (myself and surveyor friend) will need to travel to and from Santa Fe at least 3 times. First for inspection of site, notetaking, consulation with committee members and city officials, etc.; second for installation; third for removal.  Even if we are frugal, I can't imagine gas, food, motel, etc. costs totalling less than $500.00.

Please consider making a small donation to this project's travel expenses. Those of you who know me, know that I am not made of money. You also know that I am a serious artist devoted to making a difference, especially art's ability to reveal who we are in relation to nature.

You can help me make a difference by supporting this project.

Thank you.
