Keep The Light On for Lyme Disease

Mike is an unfortunate individual that has contracted one of the hardest diseases to combat in Canada .Lyme Disease. Lyme is an illness spread by tick bites and slowly dismantles the human body, over time taking away all quality of life of its host which can lead to a fatal condition . The treatments for chronic Lyme disease are insanely expensive and not covered by Alberta health care leaving patients and families struggling to pay for medical costs to try and save a loved ones life . Lyme affects over 300,000 Americans a year and the numbers continues to rise year after year in Canada making the epidemic very difficult for patients and the medical system to battle.

Mike contracted Lyme disease working as an extraction tech in the mountains for search and rescue. He dedicated himself to helping people and making the mountains a safer place working a selfless job putting his life on the line for other people as a passion. During training he was bitten 6 years ago and due to inaccurate testing the disease was found when it was already in the late stages of Lyme and he is now living with a debilitating condition that will no longer allow him to work and function and has taken away all quality of life leaving him not being able to have a job,play with his kids, function at home properly , be in the sun due to his medications,take care of himself or be able to participate in activities or go and see friends.

His family struggles month after month to come up with medication costs as well as living costs and treatments to try and battle the bacteria that has lethal intent .
