This GoFundMe, A Man's Deeds Stop the Bleed, is created by friends in Pennsylvania law enforcement, namely Corporal Shawn Hummer of the Forks Township Police Department in Easton, PA in support of Nolan Kemmerer, owner of Rapid Wraps N’ Signs in neighboring Nazareth, PA.
Our mission is two-fold. Through donations we aim to offer financial support to Nolan and assist him in covering the legal costs associated with an ongoing lawsuit that resulted from the yard signs he printed to raise funds for injured Pennsylvania State Trooper Cpl. Seth Kelly. The second goal of this GoFundMe is for any funds raised above the legal fees to be used in the same manner and spirit as the funds raised by Nolan are being used; in support of groups like St. Luke’s Medical Center's “Stop the Bleed” campaign, sponsored by St. Luke’s University Hospital’s Level 1 Trauma Center, this is a national awareness campaign launched by the White House in 2015 to encourage bystanders to come trained, equipped and empowered to help a person in a bleeding emergency with the use of a tourniquet prior to the first responders arrival. Our goal with your generous donations is to provide more tourniquets like the one Cpl. Kelly used the day he was shot that helped to save his own life. With your donations these tourniquets will be purchased for law enforcement as part of a national movement to make tourniquets commonplace in schools, stadiums, airports, malls and other places to reduce casualties from post-traumatic bleeding which is a preventable death among trauma patients.
In regard to the lawsuit, Nolan created a grass roots charity collection to raise funds for Trooper Kelly after he was injured on Tues. Nov. 7th, 2017 when a man suspected of driving under the influence opened fire on Cpl. Kelly and another Trooper after a traffic stop along Route 33 in Plainfield Township. This horrible incident occurred just a few miles from Rapid Wraps N’ Signs shop. Nolan wanted to help and printed yard signs with the hashtag #PSPSTRONG to raise funds that went directly to the injured officer, Trooper Kelly. Nolan put the hashtag text on the signs and was at that time unaware that a PSP STRONG non-profit with a name using the text in this hashtag existed. It is commonplace that when anyone is injured, ill, etc. and support is being rallied on social media, a hashtag is created by supporters and often uses the word ‘strong’ after the person or organization’s name. This is plain and simple what Nolan did. He made a hashtag, abbreviated Pennsylvania State Police and added STRONG. Nolan was indeed contacted by the PSP STRONG association whose website states their purpose is “…to raise funds to benefit and support the members of the Pennsylvania State Police and their families in times of illness, crisis, tragedy or triumph and to encourage and bolster community support for the Pennsylvania State Police.” Their representative did express her strong desire stop printing as she believed Nolan used her association’s likeness of their name and had many concerns including, but not limited to, the funds being collected. Nolan complied out of respect for the cause and their association and printing stopped. Yet, they still wanted more…and in turn came the $50,000 lawsuit filed against him by PSP STRONG.
Nolan achieved his goal in showing a community’s unwavering support for the Pennsylvania State Police who serve and protect, he went above and beyond and for that, we are deeply grateful. At every turn, we believe he did the right thing, and we refuse to let his good name, and good deed be brought down meaninglessly by this lawsuit. We are asking for your donation to please help us lift him up and continue to spread and plant the seeds of kindness and generosity that he and our communities stand for.
