Quinta's Retirement

Donation protected

Quinta is a 24 year old Warmblood mare who I first met in 2011.  She came to our barn as a sale horse.  She stayed a few months while being ridden and competed by one of our students.  She was a bit grumpy in her stall, but a truly lovely horse to ride.  At that time, she had already earned the position of older, experienced show jumper who was looking for an easier job.  Before long, Quinta found a family who's daughters fell for her and seemed a great match.  She was sold and left our barn for her new home.

Fast forward to Summer 2018 when a friend posted photos online of horses he had at his barn that had been seized by the SPCA.  I scrolled through the photos thinking how terrible of condition these horses were in and how sad I was that they ended up in that situation.  Then one of the photos and the underneath description caught my eye.  It was Quinta! Despite her severe lack of weight and obvious neglect,  there was no mistaking it.  I was overwhelmed with emotions.  Sadness for the horse, disgust for whoever let her get to this condition and a personal sense of responsibility and guilt. I have read and seen pictures about terrible neglect cases, but never had I experienced anything so close to home.

I contacted the professional who had been housing these horses and he instructed me to submit an adoption application.  With the help of a client who also knew Quinta in her former life, we adopted her.  However, we are not set up to provide Quinta with the retirement she deserves.  We have found her a suitable retirement situation to allow her to live out her days in a manner that she deserves, comfortable, healthy and safe.  We are looking to raise funds to help us fund Quinta's retirement that she should have received in the first place.  These funds will provide for retirement board, as well as vet, dental and farrier care.  If you can donate even a small amount to help Quinta live out her days the way she deserves, she and I would both be very grateful.  If you would like more information, please contact me directly.
