Diabetic Pump ( Life Saving )
Hey Family/Friends!
My Name is Rick LaPointe
PLEASE HELP READ ON!
Thanks for looking at my gofundme page. I'm asking for some help. On July 3, 1999 I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. It's been a process getting used to that, and now my life has changed completely. For those of you who do not know much about diabetes, my body no longer produces insulin. My immune system has attacked the beta cells of the pancreas. These are the cells that create insulin.
"ONLY TYPE 1 Is Covered in Ontario"
Now, the reason I'm asking for money. I need an insulin pump, and my insurance won't cover it because Ontario Only Covers TYPE 1, and I'm unable to afford it out of pocket. So, for right now, I'm giving myself shots several times a day, as well as pricking my fingers 6+ times a day.
So why do I need an insulin pump?
An insulin pump can help with controling my blood sugar, because it mimics some of the insulin delivery function of a healthy pancreas.
Infusion site only has to be changed every 2-3 days. So that means sticking myself less!
It provieds tighter control of my diabetes which can help me achieve my target levels for my blood sugar.
It helps me have more flexibility in meal times and food choices.
It also helps reduce the risk of long-term complications such as:
Retinopathy(eye damage)
Cardiovascular damage
Nephropathy (Kidney damage)
Nerve Damage (Neuropathy)
And a DEADLY Final Heart Attack!
Please Share my Pledge And any Denominations You Can afford will be kept private - PLEASE GOD!
Also with my new Diagnosis of MS I forget hence my out of controlled sugars that is killing me literally!
Again, thank you so much for any support. If anyone has any questions I'll be more than happy to answer them.

TORONTO — Insulin pumps appear to be significantly better at controlling blood-sugar levels in some people with hard-to-treat Type 2 diabetes compared to the standard therapy of multiple daily insulin injections, an international study has found.
Type 2 diabetes, in which the pancreas doesn’t make enough insulin or the body doesn’t use the hormone effectively, is typically controlled by diet and medication, but most people also end up needing insulin therapy to manage their blood sugar as the disease advances.
However, about a third of these patients have difficulty achieving optimal blood-sugar control with insulin injections, which they must administer several times a day. Poor blood-glucose management can lead to such complications as vision damage, cardiovascular disease and kidney failure.
