In 2018 the Sister Spit Tour celebrates its 21st anniversary touring the United States with 7 remarkable writers and multi-disciplinary artists. The 2018 tour - titled "QTPOC Cruising the West" - marks a new chapter in the tour’s history. As Radar Productions, the non-profit that houses Sister Spit, has shifted its vision toward developing Queer & Trans People of Color (QTPOC) artists, so too has the tour shifted lineup and style.
Sister Spit will tour the West Coast and Southwest March 2-15, 2018, featuring MariNaomi, Wo Chan, Jay Dodd, Juliana Delgado Lopera, Andrea Abi-Karam, Jamal Lewis and Virgie Tovar - each offers intersectional perspectives on issues of race, size, class, gender and sexuality.
This year, the vision for the tour included returning to cities we hadn't been to in upward of five years in hopes of revitalizing relationships to local queer communities and stimulating an exchange between people and landscape. Many of the artists on the tour have done limited travel, and this is a rare opportunity for cross-artist collaboration, intimacy-building, career development, and connection to a sense of place.
Your donation to Sister Spit will go directly toward off-setting the costs of payment for artists, transportation, gas, hotels, equipment, insurance, and venue expenses.

The tour began in San Francisco in the 1990s as a weekly, girls-only open mic that was an alternative to the misogyny-soaked poetry open mics popular around the city at that time. Sister Spit became the first all-girl poetry roadshow at the end of the 90s, and toured regularly with such folks as Eileen Myles, Beth Lisick and Nomy Lamm.
The tour was revived as Sister Spit: The Next Generation in 2007. In this next incarnation, out of respect to the changing gender landscape of our queer communities, the tour welcomed artists of all genders, including Chinaka Hodge, Dorothy Allison and Justin Vivian Bond.
Radar Productions serves queer audiences and artists through free and affordable literary arts programs that authentically reflect Queer communities’ experiences. RADAR creates a platform for emerging queer artists, commissions the creation of new work, and gives voice to innovative Queer writers and artists.
