Save Our Convent!

Donation protected
The Sisters of St. Francis Convent in Amarillo, Texas, are, for the most part, elderly and infirm Sisters who have given their lives in service to God and to the Church, working tirelessly, extending the Kingdom of God in schools, parished and seminaries since 1944.
Their ages range from 33 (our nurse) to 93 (our eldest, and most precious).

In 2009, our regional leadership team was moved, from our convent in Amarillo, to Costa Rica in order to provide better animation for all the Sisters of our region.  Until the move most of the expenses of our convent were handled by the regional leadership team, not the local community, and the money that came from the other communities of our region was used mostly to support our elderly Sisters.  As a result, our operating budget was greatly reduced, and we needed to dip into our savings to make ends meet.  And for the most part, we were doing fine.

In May of 2013, we had a terrible hail storm that caused at least $150,000 worth of damage to our roof.  Although we filed a claim, our insurance has not responded with nearly enough money to cover this expense.  We are in danger of losing the roof entirely.  We have several rooms that are now seriously water-damaged, and despite the fact that we are in an arid region of Texas, these rooms are growing mold.

We are begging for your help.  Unless we can raise the money to fix our roof, we risk losing the convent entirely.  We do not have the resources to rebuild or move.  And this house is an important symbol for our region and also for our Congregation as our foundress opened this house as a potential refuge in case the Sisters in our houses in Latin America would have to flee in times of persecution.

We are hoping to be able to raise this money by the summer so the construction will have the whole summer and autumn to finish working on the roof before next winter.

If, with your help, we can get our roof fixed, we would consider our special angels.  We always pray for our benefactors, and you all would be included in our prayers, especially in the times of Christmas and Easter, when our novenas are offered especially for friends and benefactors.

Here, our Sister Conchita is spending some time fixing statues.  While she does this, she is in constant prayer for the person who asked her to fix the statue.

Sister Geraldine, who just turned 93 on Sunday.  Our eldest and most precious Sister.  Sister worked for years as a teacher, librarian, and also Provincial (or regional) superior.  She has lived her life faithfully for God and our Congregation

Please!  help our Sisters Conchita and Geraldine, and our other Sisters!  Without your help, we will seriously lose our convent!

May God reward you a hundred-fold for whatever you can give.
