Volunteering in Fiji- Think Pacific
Hello,
On the 10th June I will arrive in the Fiji Islands travelling with Think Pacific Foundation (1162190) and working with them until the 8th July. During this project I will be part of a group of 20-25 volunteers in a rural Fijian community. I chose Think Pacific Foundation as it is a small charity who work in remote villages, where over one third of children grow up in poverty and where over 200 schools were damaged during Cyclone Winston in February 2016.
During the week days, other volunteers and I will teach Maths and English 1-1 or to small groups, so we can help them build up their knowledge. Thanks to these sessions, Think Pacific has helped the government’s aims by increasing literacy by 40%.
Afternoons are dedicated to creativity and sports which will contribute to the house cup
During this one month project I will teach kids maths and English 1-1 or to small groups but will also take part in creative activities and sports.
By taking part in this experience, I am agreeing to become a role model to these children for that time being which would hopefully motivate them to go to school more often as they will realise the reward they can get from learning.
Through this project I aim immerse myself fully into the Fijian culture so that I can gain a deeper insight into life in the developing world and contribute to making a difference to these children.
I am looking to raise £1100 which this will cover the project cost which most of it will go towards supporting the children of Fiji - e.g education resources, teacher training, improving school facilities.
Any contribution is greatly appreciated however big or small and the money will make a real difference in improving the lives of people in developing countries.
Thanks for your support,
Camille
