Hi, my name is Rebecca Johnson, and I'm in desperate need of new hearing aids. Mine are 10 years old and finally gave out on me.
Here's my story:
I was born in 1948 with a blood condition called the R H Factor. This is when the mother is R H negitive and the baby is R H positive. The R H Factor is inherited. I became very ill when I was three days old and was rushed to the hospital. I was dieing. They gave me a blood transfusion, taking the blood out at my ankles and putting the new blood in at the temples of my head. Our neighbor donated her blood and saved my life.
The doctors said because of the location they put the blood in it could cause a number of problems later in life. It wasn't until I was in third grade that they took me in for a hearing test. This is when they found out that I had nerve damage in my ears and my equilibrium was affected from the transfusion. Then I was put in a special school for the deaf.
Knowing now what I can't hear makes me feel very isolated and alone. I am on Social Security and the hearing aids will cost 3/4 of my monthly income. I was quoted an estmate of aproximately $600.00. This would leave with no way of suporting myself for the rest ofthe month.
I have three beautiful great-grandchildren ranging from the ages of 2 to 4 years old. Now I will not be able to hear or talk with them and understand what they are saying. This just breaks my heart! I can't tell them to talk louder or speak clearly because they are such young children and would not understand.
I want to hear again and be able to feel good about myself. I can't hear the TV or listen to gospel music anymore. I can't hear what people are saying and it embaresses me to have to ask them to speak louder or repeat what they said. I feel like they are yelling at me. Like I have done wrong or they are mad at me. No one likes to be yelled at! Right now I have to ask my friends to take my calls and talk for me because I can't hear on the phone.
What ever you can donate towards the cost of my hearing aids will be deeply appreciatd. If you cannot donate will you please send this to your friends so they can have an opertunity to donate. As soon as I have met my goal I will be able to get my new hearing aids. Oh, to be able to hear again!
