HELP HALO !!!!

Halo Wolcott Impound # 139 : So last week we received a call to check the condition of a dog. We responded and found this pup. As you can imagine we were a little shocked at his condition. Although his condition was what appeared to be pretty bad this pup was nothing but happy and friendly. I will not go into details regarding his owners/caretakers or the status of the case, After consulting with Chief Stephens and directed to get him signed over into our custody so we can get him medically evaluated , we did. His name is Halo and he is a approximately 5 year old intact pit mix male. So Halo came into the pound with us, Halo got a bath as he was so filthy his white fur was yellow and his grey looked brown. We noticed that Halo's right side of his face was all scraped up. When giving him treats something was off (like his nose was broken , didn't work) he couldn't find them or follow the scent to his right side. Weird ???? . Despite the situation and condition he was in Halo was so loving, happy, giving kisses. Now it was time to find out what was up with Halo's rear end, so off to Watertown Animal Hospital we went. As you could guess we all were not to optimistic as to what was going on with Halo, with how bad it looked. Well thankfully its not cancer or a tumor, but kind of just as bad Halo does have a double hernia. Halo is also blind in his right eye, why and how we don't know but it explained why his face was scrapped up and why he couldn't located treats. So we left Halo at Watertown so they could do X-rays and consult among themselves as to the best route to help Halo. We were pretty happy at that point , seemingly it could be repaired, hopefully right there at the vet. We have pulled off fundraising for other surgeries and medical cases. Well later that day we received a call from Watertown updating us on Halo's status and booom ........ HALO IS HEARTWORM POSITIVE .......... Halo also has round worms (round worms are really no big deal to treat). So now we have to do more X-ray's (chest) to see how bad Halo's heartworm is.
We received word from the vet the next day that Halo's double hernia's are to the point where Halo will need to be operated on by a board certified surgeon. Ugh !!!!! Worse Halo will need to be treated for his heartworm first , which is a 6 month , $1000.00 process, where Halo will need to be kept quiet and relaxed.

Tomorrow Halo is headed up to CT Humane Society in Newington to be medically evaluated to see if there is anything they can do to help Halo/Us.

In the meantime we are stuck between a rock and a hard place. The pound is not equipped financially or set up for the long term care Halo is going to need. Really is there a rescue out there that's actually going to be willing to take Halo and his condition and future care needed on ???? Is there a adopter who will be willing to take on Halo and the expense ???? Is there a foster out there ???? I just don't know ....... sadly all of this could have been prevented by simple maintenance of heartworm preventative, clean conditions , and neutering and routine vetting !!!! Human error !!!!
So good news today was that Halo's can be treated, everything is fixable but it also comes with a cost of aproximatley $3000.00. Halo has a long road ahead of him only if we can raise the funds to help him . So please SHARE and consider donating for us to be able to HELP HALO !!!!!
