Mary Jean's Warrior Fund

Warrior is just one of the many words used to describe a woman like our Mama. She is unequivocally and without a doubt the most incredible person you will ever hope to meet. If you have had the privilege of meeting her, then you know this already! Never have I met a more caring, generous, graceful, witty, tough -as-nails and kindhearted soul. It makes it very difficult to understand why she has had to suffer and struggle so terribly the past few years in her battle against cancer.

As many of our friends and family know, she is currently in the fight of her life. Her head & neck cancer has come back for the third time in three years and although the new tumors were recently removed, there is no guarantee that it won't come back again. However, we remain confident that this time was the last time! Over the last few years, our warrior Mama fought and won many battles, including three surgeries, the removal of her jaw & thyroid, several infections and illnesses associated with her weakened immune system, intense and difficult cancer treatments, losing the ability to swallow or eat, multiple sclerosis and most recently, she has contracted shingles. She is really having a hard time and she is the last person on Earth that deserves to struggle so much.

On top of everything else, the last thing our Mama should have to worry about is money. The gift that financial peace would bring would be the most precious & beneficial gift for her right now. She is on an extremely limited income from disability (which does not cover everything) and her medical bills are mounting, which makes the simple cost of living a daily struggle. After she heals from this most recent surgery, she will be moving in with me in Wilmington, for which she will need funds to cover the cost of a storage unit and moving expenses. She also has an unreliable vehicle with no air conditioning  that makes it nearly impossible for her to drive. We need to get that fixed, being in heat for any period of time exacerbates her MS. More than anything, our sweet, strong warrior Mama needs to heal and recover, not deal with the added stress of financial instability. Hannah and I try our very hardest to be there for her and to help as much as we can but sometimes it is not enough. We are reaching a point where we are at a loss as to how to help, which is why we turned to Go Fund Me. 

Any amount that you could possibly donate would help her out tremendously! We did not create this page in haste – until her recent diagnosis of shingles we had not planned on ever asking for any help. But one can only take so much! She is currently in tremendous pain and she is really struggling. Mary Jean is not one to complain or cry or feel sorry for herself or ask for help. She is so strong, but even warriors need a little help sometimes. What we want more than anything is for her to continue to heal and get back to the healthy, feisty, hilarious, fun-loving, sweet woman that we all know and love so dearly.
