Kaitlyn's Care Boxes

Hi, my name is Kaitlyn and I am 10 years old. I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes on July 6th, 2015 when I was 8 years old. I went to my Dr. because I did not feel good and she sent me to the Goryeb Children's Hospital in Morristown, NJ. After testing in the Emergency Room, I was admitted into the ICU for Ketoacidosis. I was released from ICU after my third day in the hospital and went to a regular room. The whole staff was very nice. A social worker came in to help get my spirits up. She brought in a gift bag that was made up by a former patient. The bag included little toys, crafts, etc. I thought this was a very nice thing to do. The gift really cheered me up. She also brought in a bunch of Medical ID bracelets that were made up by a former patient and her Girl Scout troop. This is where I came up with the idea for Kaitlyn's Care Boxes. My grandma went to a shoe store and asked for their extra boxes. She then wrapped them with gift paper. I filled the boxes with items that we purchased from different stores. I made boxes for girls and boys. We brought them to the hospital when I had my first meeting with my RN and social worker. The nurses gave the boxes to the new patients. We would like to continue to make up and donate these boxes. These boxes will be given to all children that are staying in a hospital. My hope is to start with the Goryeb Hospital and other Children’s Hospitals in NJ and eventually further. I am asking for your help to bring some joy to the children staying in the hospital. Please feel free to request a certain hospital that you would like to see Kaitlyn’s Care Boxes in. Thank you!
