Jon Klein Benefit

Jon has been a member of the Boise music community and family for the past 13 years. Jon is a fairly private man, who dedicates his time and energy to being a single father to his only son as well as pouring his heart and soul into his love of music and playing the guitar.

Jon was recently diagnosed with high-risk prostate cancer, and will soon be overwhelmed with travel and uncovered medical expenses. We are coming together to show our love and support for Jon, and to help ease some of this burden.

More about Jon:
Jon Klein was born on June 4, 1965 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His late father Sanford M. Klein was a doctor, and Jon's mom was a social worker. Jon started playing the trumpet at age 7, but switched to guitar at age 10. Jon played in various middle and high school bands around the Pittsburgh area, and then went to college at the University of Arizona in Tucson. After getting his degree in Communications, Jon attended G.I.T. at The Musicians Institute in Los Angeles, California in 1987.  He studied with guitar greats Scott Henderson, Frank Gambale, Norman Brown, Paul Gilbert and more. He graduated G.I.T. in 1988, and started playing music around the L.A. area, and gained a mentor in Supertramp guitarist Carl Verheyen. Jon moved to Pittsburgh in late 1989, and started teaching music to over 40 students per week, and playing in 3 top-level Pittsburgh bands, including stints with noted saxophonist Robbie Klein. Notable performances include playing guitar with jazz saxophonist Stanley Turrentine, and many gigs with ex Dionne Warwick guitarist Luther Dejarunett. Jon went to Boston in 1991, and attended Berklee College of Music, and gigged in the Boston area for one year. After returning to Pittsburgh, Jon started playing guitar 5 nights a week on The Gateway Clipper, a floating paddleboat/casino. Jon moved to Tucson in 1993, and opened a business called Motorcycles Unlimited. Jon joined several popular Arizona bands, notably country band Renegade, blues-rock band Jane Crowe, and singer-songwriter Scott Lowell Sind. Jon's bands opened for Lynyrd Skynyrd, Pat Benatar, Diamond Rio, Joe Bonamassa, Robert Cray, Alice Cooper, Herbie Mann and more. Jon's son Conner was born in 2003, and in 2004, Jon moved to Boise, Idaho. Jon joined the music faculty at Northwest Nazarene University for 3 years, and taught Jazz Guitar and Music Performance. Jon has worked with some of the very best musicians in Idaho, including Steve Eaton, Gayle Chapman, Jeff Rue, Camden Hughes, Mike Siefrit, Jon Hyneman, Dave John, Steve Fulton, Troy Nickel, Redstone band with Richard Soliz and Rob Faler, Andy Byron and many more.
