Rebuilding Curious Minds Toys

Hi Everyone,
I am Megan Clark the owner of Curious Minds Toys located down in Historic Old Ellicott City. Yesterday May 27th I was working in my store training my new employee when the rain started falling very heavy. As the rain continued to the fall the water on the street continued to rise. All I could think about was getting my employee to safety somehow, somewhere high and my next door neighbor. I stood in waist deep water outside of her store begging her to leave or we were going to die.
We then both fought our way outside into the waist deep water to a hallway for safety. Our community has been hit hard by this flood. The government is saying this flood was by far worse than the last one. People have lost their businesses, homes, and livelihood and it will take months if not years to fix this time.
This past year I have been working with Howard County Economic Development bringing in items for Special Needs Children. Not only did we start working very close with the special needs community, bringing in things that were such a necessity. But we started our own nonprofit speical needs child of the month program Raising money for 1 special needs child a month allowing them to come in and shop for things they needed the following month.
Everything I have worked so hard for these past 2 years has been all taken away in the matter of 2 hours. My toy store was very rewarding seeing all these special needs kids come in and be able to find something that helped with there disbaility. Now everything is gone. Now my customers have nowhere to shop. No one to ask questions about what to try next. Ellicott City is home to Curious Minds Toys and we will be returning once the problem is fixed and our building is repaired.
Any donation you can make is appreciated, whether it's a $1 or $1,000. The outpouring of support and encouragement from not only my customers, freinds, but Maryland residents andthe entire country has been astonishing. Thank you!
