We are thrilled to announce that Avondale Elementary School has been awarded a new playground from KaBoom !   In order to show community support, the Avondale Elementary School Education Foundation  must raise $9,000 in matching funds.  Our funding partner General Motors pays for the rest, and we end up with a playground valuing approximately $105,000!!!

Please help us reach our goal so that we can build a new playground in November.  And be on the lookout for more details on how to volunteer- WE as a school and community will be the ones to actually build the playground!

The existing playground equipment at AES is old, worn, and in some areas completely falling apart.  The new playground will be located closer to the school, next to the gym, making it much more accessible.  With the help of KaBoom, AES students and teachers will design the new playground,  keeping in mind the school's move toward STEM certification.  A STEM playground will go beyond the typical functions of a playground- it will also serve as another classroom, one where students can explore STEM concepts.  And what better engineering lesson than asking students to design their own playground?

Thank you for your support, and don't forget to sign-up for the AES Runs the World 5K  !

All skill levels welcome as we bring together 250 volunteers to build a new playground for Avondale Elementary, together with our funder General Motors.

We reached our goal of $9,000, and we are getting a playground on November 3rd!!! Thank you!

Let's see if we can go bigger- any additional funds we can raise will go toward enhancements around the playground- things like murals, benches, tables, shade structures, and landscaping. Kaboom will guide us in creating and installing all of these on Build Day, in addition to the playground: https://kaboom.org/resources/enhancement_projects

The well-being of communities starts with the well-being of our kids. KaBOOM! works to ensure all kids get a childhood filled with play so they can thrive. Thank you for bringing that vision to Avondale Elementary School!

Thank you to everyone who has donated! We have raised $6,600 in just four days.

Please help us spread the word to your family and friends to help us reach our goal!

The current playground equipment is old and dangerous, and a new playground would be a world of difference for the kids at AES.

And check it out! We made it into the Decaturish!
