Hey there!
My name is Monica Sowinski.
I am a vocal performance major from Vancouver, currently in my third year of the B. Mus. Honors Performance undergradute degree at Western University, in London, Ontario. I transfered into the music program at Western after receiving by Music Diploma from Capilano University in North Vancouver in 2014.
I feel incredibly blessed to say that I have been accepted into the Accademia Europea Dell'Opera (AEDO) summer program which will be taking place in Lucca, Tuscany, Italy from July 8 - August 6, 2016. I have been cast as Suor Dolcina in Giacomo Puccini's opera Suor Angelica.
AEDO is a unique opera experience, created in collaboration between Western University Canada and Centro Studi Opera Omnia Luigi Boccherini. It focuses on the preparation, creation, and performance of full operatic roles. The international program brings together singers from around the world to work with pianists, conductors, and directors from some of the world’s most celebrated opera institutions. Vocalists are given the opportunity to learn and perform full operas with orchestras in a program that models the rhythm and energy of the professional operatic experience. After an intense period of musical and dramaturgic study and rehearsal, there will be a series of public European performances.
Tuition for the four-week program is 3,000 Euros. This will cover appartment housing in Lucca, masterclasses, coachings, lessons, and Italian lessons. In addition to this fee, I will need to purchase plane tickets to and from Italy and pay for any other forms of transportation (e.g. train from Florence to Lucca). I will also need to purchase my own food/meals.
The tuition fee needs to be paid by April 1, 2016.
One of the greatest joys in my life is being on the stage and sharing my love for music with others. This trip would mean the world to me, but I cannot make it happen without some help. I am very passionate about classical singing and opera, and this opportunity would help me grow as both performer and musician.
