Support Super Cindy

Everyone who knows her is inspired by her strength, courage, generosity and fighting spirit! On December 31st, 2014, our mom was diagnosed with Non Hodgkins Lymphoma for the third time, and started New Years Day with an intense 4 day inpatient round of chemo. Within a few days, the chemo cocktail that was used to save her life put her into kidney failure with an additional extended stay at MGH, known to most as Mass General Hospital, but to our family as "Man's (or woMan's) Greatest Hospital." Since January, the Lymphoma had spread to her lungs and abdomen during an intense 3 week radiation treatment. Under the care of her team at MGH, a series of heavy chemo treatments were administered, and the latest PET scans have shown that she is responding and is on her way to remission. Unfortunately, the aggressive chemo, while it is doing it's job killing the cancer cells, it has damaged her kidneys, so the next step in this battle is the Kidney and Bone Marrow Transplant that our mom will undergo in the very near future.

While this hand of cards is anything but fair, our family counts our blessings EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. We are grateful for our mom's treatment team and incredible care at the best hospital in the world. We are blessed with all of the overwhelming love and support that we continue to receive as a family. We are blessed that our mom's sister, Cathy is a 100% match and will be her donor for both the Kidney and Bone Marrow. (We are SO GRATEFUL for this, as many people are put on lists to wait, hoping that a match is found.)

It has been a long, strenuous journey of chemo regimens, radiation treatments, more chemo, and all the while our courageous mom fights like hell with a surrounding team of truly the best nurses, doctors, friends and family support!! THANK YOU ALL!!!!

So many people have reached out along the way asking how they can help, and we have received so many meals, thoughtful hand-made gifts, cards, parking passes for MGH, gas cards to get to and from MGH, and many of you purchased the strength bracelets! THANK YOU!!!! There certainly is a feeling of helplessness when it comes to dealing with this battle.

We are putting together a fundraising event for our family to help with the financial burden that this horrific disease imposes, as this journey continues and will require a minimum 30 day hospital stay following her transplant, followed by a 100 day "semi-isolation" at home. Cathy, our Aunt will be coming from Canada to be my mom's Kidney and Bone Marrow Donor as well, for an undetermined length of stay in the Boston area. Our family has always valued the importance of "being there" for one another no matter what. When going through a treatment and fighting a disease like this, being able to look over from her hospital room and see our dad ANYTIME of the day by her side is truly invaluable. The strength and love that he has provided for her is undoubtedly a huge factor in our mom's progress. He is truly our family ROCK and has never left her side. (That being said, he has and will continue to work from MGH as a Mortgage Banker for Franklin American Mortgage to help with ANY of your home buying, financing, refinancing needs. In fact, our parent's joke that the speed of the wi-fi is significantly faster at MGH and makes working from there easy! So please get in touch if that is something they can help you or your family with!)


In the meantime, this "Support our Super Cindy" event will be held on Saturday, September 26th at Shoppers Cafe (a bar) in Waltham, Ma from 1:00-5:00pm with a $20 admission (which includes appetizers).
