Seymour School Odyssey of the Mind

Seven 4th and 5th grade students from the small town of East Granby, CT strived to do their best at the state competition for Odyssey of the Mind (OM) on March 21, 2015.  They had such a great time using their creative problem solving skills together as a team that they did not expect what happened next...  they achieved 1st place in their age division!  The team also received the Jill Riggles Award for the highest score in spontaneous problem solving in their division.   

Now these amazing students are heading to Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan, to compete in the World Finals for OM in May!  It is a great honor to attend this event. This Seymour School OM team will compete against other teams from most of the states as well as teams from over 20 other countries.  Team members, coaches, and parent chaperones will participate in:  opening and closing ceremonies, pin trading to help students from different states and countries connect, and problem-solving learning activities throughout the time they are there.

The team will be flying to Michigan and staying on the campus of MSU.  Transportation, room and board, shipment of props, and the purchase of a few items to make this team unique results in a cost of $1299 per person.  The goal listed here is just for the 7 students and 2 coaches.  Additional funding for the 5 parent chaperones would also be appreciated.
