The Joshua School (TJS) was created by six Special Educators working in a classroom for children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and developmental disabilities (DD) in the public schools. At the time, it was becoming clear that a smaller school with a controlled environment, budget, and personnel would have a more significant impact than what was possible in a larger system. In the spring of 2002, a beloved student Joshua passed away. His death inspired action, and was the catalyst for creating the school. It was a poignant reminder that every day matters and that education must strive to make every moment meaningful.

After nine years in the public schools, all six educators left their jobs, cashed in their retirements or savings, and started The Joshua School. In the Fall of 2005, after much effort, The Joshua School was licensed by the Colorado Department of Human Services and approved by the Colorado Department of Education as an “eligible facility,” the first in the state to specialize in ASD, allowing public schools and agencies to utilize services provided by TJS. The first student began in October 2005. For the next two years, all employees worked at a percentage of their salaries until the organization was able to fully sustain its operations. This level of commitment to the mission, to children, and to the organization is still with us today.

Now, thirteen years later, The Joshua School has 2 locations. The north location currently serves out of Boulder. At this time, this location is not financially feasible. The school has decided to move locations and be able to serve additional children in the northern part of Colorado.

This is where we desperately need the help of the public to keep this amazing school alive. We are under a deadline to satisfy DHS, CDE, Fire and City codes, and our ESY (extended school year requirements). We are pleading for any financial help you can provide. We have partnered with a non-for profit agency called Truly Inspiring to raise money needed for this! Truly Inspiring was created by the employees of Inspiring Talkers Therapy group owned by Brandi-Lynn & John Greig. This therapy group opened their doors for our school by offering a building that will be amazing for our students. Now, it is our job as parents of these amazing 12 students to fundraise to keep our children's future out of jeopardy.

The funds raised will provide completion of the building coding requirements by the Department of Education and the Colorado Department of Education. For example, two doors need to be installed to increase safety for our children who are prone to eloping (running away)! We will also need to install a high fence and playground. This new site is located off the I-25 corridor. Our children are prone to wonder so the need for a safe and sturdy fence is a huge priority!

Our parent community needs to have these funds raised in 4-6 weeks. This urgency is very desperate. Without this school, we are in jeopardy of our students regressing to behaviors such as aggression, wandering, and deteriorating nutrition. Many parents have suffered numerous stressful nights and depleted bank accounts. We do not have any other options that meet their needs!

The Joshua School and Truly Inspiring are non-for profit and will be able to provide a tax ID for all donations made.

Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generous contributions.
