Hi everybody!
I am a Graduate Researcher at Monash University, Australia.
I am currently studying the role of empathy as a catalyst for social change in tourism; hoping to find ways in which tourism can promote social cohesion and a positive social impact in local communities and visitors alike.
Today’s volatile socio-political context make empathy an urgent ordeal. My findings suggest international travel can help us understand our differences by truly listening to and engaging with people from different cultures; allowing us to potentially build bridges and not walls. If feeling empathy creates resilient relationships that will overcome disagreement, prejudices and misunderstandings, then in availing ourselves of opportunities to empathise, I believe we might trigger a broader social transformation that could ultimately lead to a more peaceful world.
I have recently been accepted to present the findings of my research in two international renown conferences:
The Critical Tourism Studies Conference 2017 (25 - 29 June; Palma de Mallorca, Spain)
https://www.criticaltourismstudies.info/
The International Conference on Tourism, Ethics and Global Citizenship (03 - 06 July, Apeldoorn, Netherlands)
https://saxion.nl/site/index/ctd
However, I am not in the position to finance my travel expenses on my own. I believe my attendance to these conferences is crucial for me to become an emerging researcher (and thus, be able to continue with my work).
If interested, please find my abstract here: https://www.academia.edu/30751765/Can_pro-social_tourism_foster_empathy
I greatly appreciate your help! Everything counts!
