2 Wonderful soft natured beautiful Great Danes –
Once again just left behind, no thought of their future ~ WHY!!
Once again we are astounded by those animals that need help.
These are 2 beautiful soft natured Great Danes were left behind by their owner in Qatar, they are beautiful young animals with great characters. They are young playful dogs who love any proper form of human contact. They love the freedom from a cage and are seeking a place to explore and be the young dogs we all love to see running in a field.
This is what we want to achieve for these beautiful animals
It astounds me that people do not think when they BUY the prized dogs, enough money to buy the show off brand but no sense of care or long term responsibility
Taking them under our care
These two soft wonderful dogs were left in a vet at least and not on the street, but finally the vet said no more and the owner said he did not want them, the owner surrendered the dogs – but has made no financial contribution at all. So when we met them and had seen how wonderful and soft they were – we knew we had to help, but this would be something we could not do alone.
When we published that 2 young GREAT DANE Females were needing a home, - there was a flood of interest only to disappear when we announced that we would hand it over once they were neutered.
So once again we have taken them under our umbrella - to protect them. We have been told by a lot of people that they would help once we had control and were committed to the process – I am now asking for the help.
CURRENT STATUS
There are some medical issues that we had to deal with initially. Both Dogs are in fair health.
MEDICAL
Both dogs are now fully vaccinated and one has been spayed. One has a small Urinary issue currently under investigation before she is spayed. We think they have had litter/s – no details were shared.
COST - We already have a vet bill at Pets Care of QAR 3150 - which includes some boarding.
(Proof of BILLS etc can be provided )
ACCOMODATION
We tried to get the dogs fostered with a great experienced family buy this failed as the dogs found the new freedom such a relief, they need some initial training & supervision.
The dogs are now at Pampered Pets - a kennel that has the space and experience to handle Great Danes that we have used for 10 years.
COST- so far we have spent QAR 3000 ( you pay in advance) and we expect this to be at least ANOTHER QAR 3000 to QAR 5000 in boarding before we get the dogs out of the country.
(Proof of bills will be provided).
THE NEXT STEPS
Obviously as always we will try to get the dogs out of the country to a more suitable environment.
CHALLENGES
The dogs obvious size - both weight and height are borderline - the dogs are 50kg
there is a weight restriction of 75KG on some airlines and we are now very close to this restriction unless we can find a way to get them out ASAP - we are still looking for crates
POSSIBLE NEW LIFE - Is a reality
there is a possible new home for them in North West USA on the Canadian border but this would require a flight to the east coast then a 20 hr drive
WHY NOT FLY TO CHICAGO?
Unfortunately the baggage handling staff at Chicago do not accept accompanied baggage over 32 kg, They will accept the dogs in CARGO
HOWEVER
we do not have the money to send dogs by CARGO as this will cost tens of thousands of riyals that we do not have…
So now we are doing all we can …. but we need your help… we cannot do this alone anymore ~ after sending 300 dogs to a new life this is not possible…..we wish we could help more
if you can help with vet fees / boarding/ anything - please …… if you want to pay direct to the vet or the kennels or Qatar airways later please do – just advise …
CONCLUSION
It is very easy to make a judgement call on the owner - but seeing as though he made no provision for his animals that cost a lot of money its not worth the effort
In the meantime he will travel to another country closing the door on this issue - I wish there was a suitable way to ensure that he would have made a provision for his family, not expect others to take this responsibility.
This cannot keep happening without consequences- soon the eyes/microscopes of the world will be focused on Qatar
