A memorial scholarship has been established in the memory or Martha K. Jahnke( Marti). She studied criminal justice at the University of Southern Mississippi. This scholarship will be awarded to a female who plans to study criminal justice and pursue a career in law enforcement.
Marti was a ten year veteran of the Hattiesburg, MS police department. In 1998 she was selected to join the United States Secret Service. As a member of the service, she was on the presidential detail for George W. Bush, Laura Bush and their daughter Jenna. In addition, she protected the Secretary of State and many other national and international leaders. Marti loved every aspect of law enforcement whether it was patrolling the street or protecting the president of the United Sates. She could not wait to see what the next day would offer and put her heart and soul into every case, every assignment and every report. It is with these ideals in mind that this scholarship is offered to provide other females the opportunity to make a differecne in their lives, their communities and their country.
Marti lost a desparate six year battle with ovarian cancer in 2014. Like every challenge in her life she met it with strenght and courage. It is our wish that the memory of her strenght, courage and love of law enforcement will be continued through this scholarship.
