Where Are The Children?

Tax deductible
On Friday, July 6, 2018 at 6 p.m. (your local time) New Carpa Theater Co. www.newcarpa.org (and Promise Arizona www.promiseaz.org ) are asking theater artists here in Phoenix and across the nation to stage a live performance of your choice (a monologue, skit, short play, improv performance, musical, play, etc.) or a related community event to raise awareness about the recent separations of migrant children from their families under the Trump Administration's "zero tolerance" policy. These families must be reunited.

If you cannot organize a performance, please post a photo of yourself or your friends holding a sign that reads "Where Are The Children?" to show your solidarity with the estimated 3,000 migrant children who were taken from their families.

Special thanks to our partner, Promise Arizona, an immigrants rights and civic engagement nonprofit founded in 2010, for collecting these donations to help provide legal aid services for the migrant children and families separated at the border.

The goal of this independent, nonpartisan, social justice theater project is to call on federal authorities to immediately reunite each of the immigrant parents and children who have been separated and to call for an end to the "zero tolerance" policy that is feared will lead to the indefinite detention of potentially hundreds of thousands of immigrant families in the coming weeks.

Since mid-April, at least 3,000 children were separated from their migrant parents, most of whom had come to the U.S. seeking political asylum to escape violence in their homelands, as a result of the Trump Administration's decision to prosecute every undocumented immigrant crossing the border with their children.

Only a few hundred of these children, according to the federal government, have been returned to their parents to date. In some instances, immigrant parents were detained and have been deported by federal authorities with the parents having no knowledge of the whereabouts of their children.
