There are talented and ambitious undergraduates in every school, with the creativity and drive to succeed in top graduate programs. Nevertheless, in underserved schools in the US and abroad, many don't have access to peers or professors who have experience with what the graduate school admission process is really about and can provide mentoring with their application materials. Oftentimes students at these schools also lack opportunities to showcase their worth as scientists and the professional connections and gravitas that can ensure that their applications receive more than a perfunctory look.

We have put together a group  of experienced physics and chemistry professors that will personally and individually mentor a group of about 20 -24 undergraduate students from Minority Serving Institutions and other underserved schools (including internationally) with their application materials. The selected students will translate into plain English a scientific article from one of the research groups they are interested in. These articles will be available online on our website and on Medium.com and will demonstrate the commitment and understanding of the scientific ideas of the selected students. In exchange for this nontrivial effort on part of the student, our organization will pay the application fee for that particular program and we will leverage our professional network to make sure that the head of relevant research group is aware of the translated article and the application of the student.

This is a pilot program and our goal is to eventually get involved earlier, pairing students with mentors who can introduce them to active researchers and help them land opportunities for undergraduate research. This year we are focusing on physics and chemistry (broadly defined) but in the future we will expand to other areas of science and engineering. In the future we will apply to receive funding from foundations and government agencies, but for now we are requesting your donations to show that the idea is feasible and will be successful.

Your donations will be used to pay for application fees.
If you ever applied to graduate school, you know that the costs are significant and money considerations play an important role on which schools you apply to. You also know how attending the graduate program that you did changed the course of your life and career. In any case, please donate if you want to have a positive and potentially life-changing impact on a young, creative, talented mind. Let us know if you want your contribution to help someone from a particular school, country, or region and we will do our best to accommodate your request. At the end of April 2019 we will make a public a report with our results.

Please peruse our website  for more information, including our detailed business plan.
