Pumpkin Prowl Community Halloween
Every year for the past 3 years, we have hosted an alternative Hallween event for the community which starts at Belview park where we partake in games and crafts, followed by trick-or-treating through the neighbourhood at participating homes.
The event takes place on a Saturday before Halloween (date determined each April), and this year our 4th annual event will be held on October 21st at 4:30pm.
Whether due to divorce, work schedules, or any number of reasons why parents or other family members might miss Hallowen on the actual night, Pumpkin Prowl offers a free event that aims to create a similar experience, yet enhances on a broader sense of community with our gathering at the park beforehand, and marching in a parade fashion with family, friends, and special appearances by Spider-Man, Darth Vador, and others each year.
20 children took part in our innaugural event in 2014, with particpation doubling each year with 80 kids in attendance last year.
Thanks to individual and small business donations, we are able to provide candy for particpating homes so they don't have to provide these items for two Halloweens. We also have gifts for taking part in crafts and games, as well as for best costumes and completing the Prowl.
Other costs include supplies and materials for deocrations and games, and marketing (ie flyers and website hosting).
Pumpkin Prowl is hosted by Tara Aronson and Larry Pattison.
