I am doing this for my best friend of 24 years and her family who are like family to me.

On Friday, October 21st, Sammy, who was 4 years old at the time, had surgery to remove a cancerous tumor from his brain, which has since been diagnosed as medulloblastoma. He was in the hospital until June 22nd...246 days later. Unfortunately, on September 1st, 2017, Sammy relapsed and they found that the cancer had spread to the lining of his brain and to his spine.

Sam is an active, brave, special needs 5 year old. Kristen and Charles also have a 2 year old son, Logan. Currently, they are being assisted by friends and family to care for Logan as they will be spending most of their time at PCH again after a family trip to Disneyland to make some lasting memories with Sammy & their family.

Sammy suffered from posterior fossa syndrome after his first surgery and do not know what to expect down this long, challenging road especially with the relapse.

Please consider donating to help the family with travel expenses for treatment, treatment expenses and just everyday expenses that will take place during this road ahead.

If you cannot donate, please keep Sam, Kristen, Charles & Logan in your prayers.

Also, if you would like to send a card, or package please send t:

On September 1st, 2017, Sammy was admitted to Phoenix Children's Hospital again.
The cancer has metastasized to the lining of his brain & down his spine.
Please continue to pray, send good thoughts & donate if possible.

Sammy spent 246 days in the hospital fighting cancer. While Sammy is home and is currently showing no evidence of disease, his fight is far from over. The same is true of all children who battle this beast.

Everyone knows pink is for breast cancer, but everyone SHOULD also know GOLD for CHILDHOOD cancer. Over his journey you have seen me use #morethan4. Did you know childhood cancer only gets 4 cents of every dollar spent by our government for cancer research? 4 pennies for hundreds of pediatric cancers to all share. Breast cancer gets 12 cents of each dollar. Yet, each childhood cancer is unique and needs just as much support, attention and funding as each individual adult cancer receives. Only 3 drugs have been approved in the last 25 years for childhood cancer while over a 100 have been approved for adult cancers.

Sammy lost a lot in his treatment and his hair was the least of them. He lost his abilities to walk, talk, eat, hear and see the way he once did. Each of these abilities being forever changed and impacted. His hair is growing back, but he also gained a wheelchair, a walker, a leg brace, hearing aides, glasses, a communication device, a GJ-tube and the list goes on. I wish his hair was the only loss but even these do not compare to those who have lost the life of their child, their warrior.

The sad truth is hard. The chances of Sammy surviving 5 years is grim. 1 in 2 survive with his diagnosis. The chance of him surviving to adulthood is even less. If he does, he will likely face the battle of cancer again and it may not be brain cancer but secondary cancers caused by outdated drugs used in this treatment. If he has a reoccurance of this cancer, we have to choose between quality of life verses quantity of life. Radiation would be our next step, and it comes with a huge cost to quality of his life. It would impair him for the remainder of his life. This is a choice we hope we never have to face.

Help us fight. Join our family. Help raise awareness. Help make a change for kids like Sammy.
