Publishing Christian Books

Donation protected
I’m currently working on creating an original story developed around the Second Coming of Christ. The first book in this series illustrates three fundamental principles ignored by all accounts of this prophecy.

One: I disclose the events God sets in motion before his arrival to help save those left behind. The reader discovers that God’s initial vision is only visible through the eyes of an innocent child. He chooses Mia Milagro, a brilliant ten-year-old girl to help those around her see the way, the truth and the light.

Two: I describe the preparations set forth by God to prepare those saved for an Eternal Life.

And Three: I explain how the Anti-Christ seizes power and how his message of unity and perseverance are nothing more than a brilliant façade. I expose his relentless pursuit to silence the truth and his brutal and unyielding methods.

The first book in this series, The Second Coming: The Arrival intertwines Science Fiction and Fantasy with Christian prophecy to share a gripping tale of determination and ingenuity as a young genius becomes immersed in a life-and death struggle to save humanity. But at the end, only one thing is certain; some of us must die so the rest of us may live.

Now, let me unveil my situation. It doesn’t manner how good a story might be, publishers today are only interested in accepting manuscripts which are free of errors. And that requires professional services, which translates into money up front – and lots of it. I have spent over $6,000 trying to publish my first book.

And although the book is available for sale on Amazon, I had to borrow half the money required. Unfortunately, I still haven’t generated a professional review of the book using an organization like Indie or Kirkus Reviews. A book review is important to effectively market a manuscript to literary agents, publishers and larger promotion outlets or advertising organizations like the New York Times or the Washington Post.

In addition, there is a growing requirement by avid readers today to have the book available in audio form. And that too is extremely expensive.

Listed below are many of the initial publishing costs new authors today are confronted with.

1.      Professional Editorial Services – $3,500 to $12,500

a.      These costs vary greatly depending on your requirements.

           i.      The initial cost of correcting spelling and grammatical errors can range from – $3,500 to $5,000.

ii.      Story line construction and/or plot gap identification and correction. These services could add an additional $3,500 to the initial costs.

iii.      Finally plot or storyline reconstruction. These services can and will add as much as an additional $4,000 to your editing costs.

2.      Professional Manuscript Review – $500

a.      These professional reviews are required if you expect your book to be recommended to local or national libraries and/or retailers. In addition, publishers and literary agents use these services to find publishable works for film or video production houses.

3.      Cover Development and Internal Artwork – $1,500 to $7,000

a.      These services can be expensive. The average author not familiar with image manipulation software like Adobe Photoshop or InDesign, can and will find these costs to be surprising. Fortunately for me, my wife is a Photoshop user so I have avoided most of this expense.

4.      Audio Book Development – $13,500 to $25,000

a.      Most professional audio book developers charge by the word or the hour, whichever is more. And at 10 cents a word my first book would cost me $13,480 to record. These costs do not include the CD development and artwork nor any of the production costs associated with the audio CD.

5.      Movie Screen Writing Services – $10,000 to $100,000

a.      This depends on the quality of the original manuscript and whether the book was written in the narrative or character generated dialogue. Books written in character generated dialogue – like mine – make it easier and hence less expensive to transfer to a screen play.

b.      Regardless, there are costs associated with trying to generate a screenplay outside the norm. Collaborating writers, treatment development, and/or the creation of a television or big screen movie pilot. These efforts can have a crippling financial cost to most new entrepreneurs, like me.

I am a disabled veteran living on a modest fixed income. If I’m not interacting with or taking care of my seven-year-old boy, I’m writing. I can’t tell you what it would mean to have the financial freedom to publish my second book without sacrificing the needs of my family.

Aside from generating some additional income, I would be able to get a message of peace and love out to many who long for tenderness and hope. Unfortunately, my expendable income is exhausted. And although I finished writing my second book in July 2018, I had to place the publication project on hold.

I have also been asked to generate an audio version of my first book. But again, my wife and I just don’t have the funds. I believe this story will make the lives of so many people better if I could only get it out.

Oh, and I just started working with Netflix to generate a screenplay and a pilot for the series. However, five minutes into my first conversation with the producer, I was asked how I would be funding the project. Needless to say, I told him, I would have to work on it.

This venue brings people like you together to help entrepreneurs – like me realize their dreams. Who knows, someday I could be reading a request from someone like you hoping to realize their dream. And have the funds to help.

So in conclusion, I want to thank you for taking the time to read my story. Now when I take into account editing services for my second book - $6,000, two book reviews - $1,000, two audio book developments - $27,000, book cover and internal artwork - $750, I would need $34,750 over the next six months. This is not taking into account the development of two screenplays which would cost at a minimum, $50,000 more.  So every little bit would be helpful. But if you can’t contribute, it’s okay. I’m glad you stopped by and explored the possibility. I wish you the very best in all things.

Respectfully,

Alberto
