Public Defendant's Office Support

Public Defenders or defendants are severely underfunded and understaffed, and this is an attempt to contribute some amount, however small, to their plight. 

Public Defenders, and their offices, are lawyers for those who cannot afford their own. The Miranda Rights reading in just about every cop show references them, and yet the number of these highly-needed civil servants is far below where it should be. Many lawyers take more than one case a day and thus do not have time to properly research or even sleep. As a result, they often simply convince their clients to take a guilty plea so they can get to more difficult cases. 

As a result, prisons are severely overcrowded and a disproportionate number of citizens convicted of crimes are lower-class people who cannot afford a lawyer and as such take a guilty plea. For many of them, however, this can destroy their lives. Even just a few days in jail can mean losing your room in transitory housing or losing your job. This is, obviously, not good and often results in temporary or permanent homelessness. 

Funding Public Defendants' offices is one possible solution to this problem, as it will allow them to hire more lawyers who thus have less work and can better defend the poor and impoverished of our nation.
