Protecting Oceans from Drift Gillnets

We need help to end the use of destructive, mile-long drift gillnets off the California coast.  Meant to catch swordfish, these nearly invisible commercial nets also entangle, injure and kill marine mammals, sea turtles, sharks and fish. A new California law will phase out drift gillnets after $1 million is raised to match the $1 million already allocated by the State of California. Our goal is to raise $100,000 of the $1 million  to compensate California swordfish fishermen who switch to cleaner fishing methods - like deep set buoy gear - that successfully catch swordfish without causing deadly harm to marine life. California is one of the last places in the world still permitting large-mesh commercial drift gillnets, which throw overboard about half of what they catch. Last year, California took a bold step to protect our oceans by passing a law to end this out-dated gear. 

Your entire donation, minus a GoFundMe fee of about 3%, will go directly to the fiscal agent designated by California to administer the transition funds as required by the legislation.  Kind of Blue, LLC  will not charge a fee or receive any compensation.
