Project Winter Camp Jamaica 2018

Donation protected
All Jamaican Children Deserve Playing Time.

The 2018 dates are set! Project Winter Camp is back for our fifth year!

You've helped us bring the life-changing experience described below to over 400 boys and girls in Jamaica, and this year we'll be adding a new location that will serve another 250 children in communities that have never had the benefit of a structured soccer camp.

The Dates
• 12/10-13: Portsmouth Primary (Portmore, St. Catherine)
• 12/14: Usain Bolt Stadium (Kingston)
• 12/17-20: Manning High School (Savannah La Mar, Westmoreland)

Your generosity makes PWCJ possible—giving Jamaican children a place to play, and skills that will take them far in life.

Please consider donating and helping spread the word!

Our Mission
Jamaica has a spirit, rhythm and pride like no other on earth. But with few resources, models for success, safe out-of-school activities, or dedicated adult role models and coaches, many Jamaican children turn to unhealthy lifestyles for answers, like joining gangs, adding to high rates of crime and violence.

What those children don’t lack is energy and passion. Given a chance—meaning a role model and a safe place to play—there’s no limit to how much they can learn, achieve and grow.

With your help, that’s the chance Project Winter Camp will give them.

PWCJ sends specially trained coaches to conduct camps in the strategically selected Jamaican communities of Kingston, Greater Portmore, St. Catherine, and Savanna-La-Mar, Westmoreland. We deliver the following:

1. THE INCREDIBLE BENEFITS OF SOCCER
Working in collaboration with a local football club and primary school, we organize and conduct a high-impact soccer camp, teaching technical skills while emphasizing health and fitness.

2. POSITIVE FEMALE ROLE MODELS
Jamaica suffers from a deep-rooted stigma associated with female participation in sports. We help overcome that by providing female coaches who set positive, inspiring examples for boys and girls alike.

3. INVALUABLE LIFE SKILLS
In addition to emphasizing teamwork, leadership and commitment, we conduct financial literacy workshops (in collaboration with the JN Foundation) and Health & Nutrition workshops.

What Your Donation Means.

Along with our sponsors and partners, your generous gifts help us provide camp snacks, equipment, and even playing kits and certificates for each camper.

What Makes Our Model Sustainable.
PWCJ uses a “coach the coaches” program model, enlisting players from the regional football club and local youth coaches to serve as mentors and role models to the youth who look up to them.

Our coaches demonstrate how to run an effective camp—providing leadership and mentorship skills along with a proven, evidence-based curriculum. This enables successful camps and clinics in the future, ensuring sustainability after our departure and impacting more youth in need.

Who We Are.

Project Winter Camp was founded by Dean Lothian, a Chicago-based parent, coach and former semi-professional soccer player. Dean is NSCAA-certified and has been a Master Soccer Coach with America SCORES Chicago for over 12 years, working work with at-risk youth and providing coaching education to over 100 coaches each year. He is one of the pioneer coaches for the US soccer Foundation Soccer 4 Success coach-training program and piloted the first urban soccer certification.

A native of Jamaica, Dean knows what it is to play soccer barefoot on dirt fields, sometimes even with soccer ball. He also knows how positive soccer can be in the lives of children.
