Project Lek is a side project that The Agape Home in Chiang Mai Thailand runs to help families who are affected with the HIV virus.
The families live below the poverty line and one or more members of the family are affected by the HIV virus. In each case, the family has income from at least one source, typically a job held by a parent, but the income from that source(s) is not sufficient to meet the family’s basic needs. Because of the little income, there is often a risk of the child being separated from the family.
This may be due to a variety of reasons, including the difficulties encountered in trying to hold down a job while caring for a family member who is ill. Thus, the decision was made to try and help in these situations where a little financial assistance can make the difference in keeping a family together.
When Agape Home workers go to visit the families in the program, they tell them of the hope that is found in our Lord and Saviour, Christ Jesus. They pray with them, encourage them in their faith, and strive to provide not only their physical needs but also their spiritual needs.
We (Lucy & Charlotte) are hoping to raise funds for Project Lek to help support these families who have been affected by HIV/AIDs.
We will be living on $10 each per week, for a month. We will use our $10 to pay for our food for the week, to get an idea of the small amount people living in poverty earn. In our second week, we will be sleeping on bamboo mats to experience a little of their harsh sleeping conditions.
We are hoping to raise $500 for Project Lek and the families in the program. This money will provide them with financial support for their basic daily needs; food, toiletries, clothes etc. We need and thank you for your support, all money raised will go to help these families in need.
