“In short, I wanted to humanize the individuals that the majority of persons walk by each day without a second look, as if they were a static piece of cityscape.” 11 years ago Janette had an interaction with a busker in Australia that inspired her to one day tell the stories of those who were silenced by assumptions.
...And now, will the help of her partner Alexa Schwartz, what started as a pipe dream is now a reality; and we need your help!
While we understand that giving a face to and speaking with the homeless provides us with the opportunity to make a difference, we are also aware (and have become increasingly so) that the majority of the homeless are without the bare necessities. It has also become apparent to us that many of them have plans that involve raising a certain amount of money (to purchase train tickets, rent a room, etc.); therefore by providing them with these care packages, they no longer have to use their earnings on these items and can start their new life started sooner rather than later.
Additionally, while New York City is not far away, the travel costs do add up. The money raised by this GoFundMe will help to offset these costs and give us the opportunity to also travel to other US cities; allowing us to extend our purpose (and care packages) to more individuals.
Please note that at this time we are not registered as a nonprofit; however, we understand there is a lot of research and paperwork that needs to be done and we would prefer not to put this initiative on hold.
