$606 of $4,000 goal

Raised by 9 people in 1 month

CHAB is a school in Siem Reap that was started by Mr. Kim Bona and is registered in the Interior Ministry of Cambodia. My parents stumbled across Bona and his school while they were in Siem Reap and have been sending school supplies and clothing every 6 months for quite a while.  Bona has sent photos and and uploaded them onto his website showing the children happy with the contents of their packages. The packages do arrive, and we see photos of the kids wearing the clothes that, just a few weeks back, had been sitting in a box in Los Angeles, California.

CHAB was getting funding from a nearby tourist hotel that shared some of their profits, but the hotel was sold off, so funding slowly dwindled, and now is completely gone. Bona is afraid that the school might have to close. As of now, the teachers who pick kids up from remote villages and bring them to the school have been using their own money for gas. But they can't do that forever. Also, the government is taking back the classrooms that they let CHAB use, so Bona has to rent out a space as of March 2018.

The kids are mostly from small villages and otherwise won't get any schooling. The problem, in that part of the world, is that kids are often sold if they don't have skills for a proper job. CHAB gets the kids to school and teaches them math, English, hygiene and more. It keeps children off the streets, away from child labor and prostitution. They also learn to take care of themselves and of others.

I went to visit CHAB in July 2016. Everything you see here is true. There is a school, there are tons of students and they need to build skills for their future and stay safe! I hope to visit again in 2018. So far, many friends of ours have been great supporters. Two of them, Jackie (L) and Molly (R), went to visit CHAB School.

Another friend, Sarah, raised money with her daughter Elaia through Elaia's school in New York. Everyone in Elaia's grade participated!

We reached around $4,000 for 2016 and 2017. Now we are getting ready for 2018 and I would like to give them the same amount as we did last year. The school is still open and the kids are still there. I hope everyone will repeat their donation from last year!

Here is a photo of Bona. Please look at his website for all the details about CHAB School. There is more information about how the money is allocated, who he is, what the children do at school, volunteer opportunites and tons more:

We can do this!
I will be more than happy to keep everyone updated on whether or not we are reaching our goal!

Most importantly, THANK YOU!

Good morning and Happy Valentines Day everyone. On March 30, CHAB will have to move from the nice government owned schoolhouse to a rented space. The rent is $200 a month and we need some help to keep the school going. Please think about donating to us for the year! Any little bit will help. Bona doesn't want to give up on giving the kids a place to go to learn, so they don't wander around on the streets or have to go home and only work. If you donate, I will do my best to go to Siem Reap soon(ish?) and bring back something nice in the mail as a thank you, and letters from the kids, like last time! Thank you very much!

Hi guys,

Please consider making a donation for the end of this beautiful month of January! Chab has one more month at the current location and then will have to start renting a space out instead of using the government owned building. So disappointed. If you have any ideas for different fundraising ideas, please let me know.
Thanks for your support and find us on Instagram, I upload photos of the kids, they are so cute! Worth adding us!

Hi guys! Happy New Year! We made our goal for 2017 (ok, we made $3,900... so close....)

What's up for 2018 and what happened in 2017?

2017 - Two friends went to visit the school! My friend Jackie went from Washington DC with her whole family and spent the day with CHAB School. Molly, who is teaching in Oman right now (wow!) went on a trip over that way and also spent an afternoon with the kids. Both of them got some great photos for me to use. We also contacted CCF (Cambodian Children's Fund) and they actually sent a representative out to see the school. They are deciding whether some of their funding could go to CHAB. Fingers crossed for good news... I also made the last money transfer today for the 2017 funds and have attached the Western Union receipt for you.

2018 - The school that Bona uses is actually three classrooms in a government building. The government unfortunately decided that they wanted to use those classrooms for something else and is making Bona move in March. This is not good news at all. He did find a space to possibly rent out, so we shall see how that pans out. Molly took a photo of part of the new space for me and it is also attached.

Those of you who gave me mailing addresses hopefully received holiday cards, I like sending those so much more than e-cards, but that means that some people miss out. I hope to go back to the school some day and collect some other kind of fun thing to send to you.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read these and participate in this small drop of water in the big ol' sea. Please remember that you are making some kids out there very happy, just check out the faces in the description of this fundraiser. I changed some of the photos up, and if those faces in the first photo don't make you smile (and donate LOL) then....!!

Best Regards,
Gen
