#ProjectPlayground in the D.R.

In my most recent trip to my parents' hometown in Bonao, Dominican Republic, I spent a lot of time archiving family history. Interview after interview, I was reminded of the lack of access to education children in the Dominican Republic face, especially in campos where families do not have the financial means to send their kids to school.

My family and extended family understand the importance of education and believe in the fact that knowledge is power. Many of them are working on making changes in curriculum and access that will positively impact the children of Bonao.

My grandfather, Pedro Pablo Sanchez, started a preschool in Los Quemados de Sabana del Puerto, Bonao, R.D in 2015. The land was donated to him by my great-uncle, Andres Sanchez. It is amazing to see what they have done so far with so little.

Andres Sanchez has graciously offered to donate more land with the purpose of building a playground for the preschool, Rayitas de Luz, which currently serves 34 students. This is where you all come in.

There are numerous scientific studies that emphasize the importance of play in learning and YOU have the power to contribute to creating this opportunity for students at Rayito de Luz in Bonao, R.D.

Please take a moment to make a donation in any amount (NO AMOUNT IS TOO SMALL, except or maybe .30 cents because that is the fee GoFundMe charges per transaction.) Your donations will be used for the building of the playground, however, if we meet and/or surpass our goal we will also be purchasing books in Spanish for the teachers to use with the children during circle time.
