Prayers for Rome
This is my son Rome he is four years old, normally he is a very active and adventurous. But on May 4th of 2016 he was put into the Intensive Care Unit. After two brain surgeries and multiple tests he was transfered to Texas Children's hospital. He was diagnosed with acute disseminated encephalomyelitis aka Adem It is a rare autoimmune disease that causes the immune system to attack the brain causing damage and causing swelling. After conquering the second worst case ever seen he then beat bacterial meningitis in his spinal fluid which contained two different forms of staph . After leraning how to walk, talk and even eat again he completed a rehabilitation program . Then he was released from the hospital and healthy for 5 months with no issues . But on November 27 he had extremely high fevers and was rushed to the Emergency room. They found that he had pneumonia and was admitted into the hospital. He later developed a swollen liver, kidney, spleen, gallbladder and many other outer body parts . His white blood cell count and immune system levels are steadily dropping and we dont know why. Also his kidneys are slowly losing more and more function. He was emergency airlifted to Texas Childrens due to a unknown cause of his many symptoms. After a month of being at Texas Children's Rome was diagnosed with Hlh a rare cancer like disease. Hlh is a disease where your T cells and Nk cells do not work properly. Causing your immune system to attack your organs, soft tissue and bone marrow. HLH is treated by many rounds of chemotherapy. I have missed and will miss many days at work, but i know by his side is where I need to be.
