King County Sheriff AED Fund

Donation protected
Early in the morning on Monday, March 6, a King County Sheriff's deputy suffered a heart attack in the midst of struggling with a combative drunk driving suspect.  Luckily for our deputy, his partners were there and immediately recognized the signs of the emergency.  Because the King County Sheriff's Office has steadily been increasing the number of AED defibrillator units in its patrol cars, one was immediately available for use on the deputy to help save his life.  His partners administered two shocks before an ambulance arrived to take him to the hospital for surgery.

In 2012, the Sheriff's Office had 75 AED units in its patrol cars.  Since then, that number has almost quadrupled to 280.  Deputies have saved dozens of lives with the use of these devices, and because of the nature of patrol operations, and the fact that some deputies patrol in remote areas, it's often the case that a deputy responds to a medical emergency faster than other medical first responders.

It would take roughly 150 additional units to fully outfit every patrol unit in the Sheriff's Office.  In partnership with the Ron and Don Nation, we feel this goal is attainable.  This time it was a deputy whose life was saved.  Next time it could be yours or a loved one's.
