Portsmouth for Peru

Donation protected
My name is Emma Rainer and I am an upcoming senior at Portsmouth High School.  As my senior project, I have chosen to do a service trip to Peru in February of 2017. I and a dedicated group of students at the school will be working through the UK based organization Kiya Survivors.  Small and independent, they offer us the luxury to gear and tailor our trip to our strengths and goals.

Over the 14 day duration of the trip, we have chosen to undertake two major projects.  First in the North, in Mancora, we will build a much needed concrete wall around the children's haven run by Kiya Survivors, the Mama Cocha Home, currently the home of children aged 8-16. Although they are all victims of abuse and extreme poverty, and many with special needs, they have already been robbed twice.  With some days of passionate effort, we'd be able to offer security and comfort to some individuals who could not be any more needing or deserving.
Following the completion of the project in the North, we will travel to the South to Urubamba (Cuzco) to work at the Rainbow House Orphanage and undertake a second project. Many families in the local community survive without any source of running water.  Again here, over the course of a few days, we will improve immensely the standard of living for a family by building them a fully functioning bathroom- an initiative coined "Building Baños" by Kiya Survivors.

Finally, we will organize a soccer tournament for the kids at the center.  Soccer is dear to a number of the members of my team who play on Portsmouth High School's teams and in local leagues.  It is also a game loved by the Peruvians. It is sure to spark a common thread between us and the locals.  My team hopes to touch the hearts of the children and show them that they, in however dire a situation, are just like us and we just like them.

Ultimately, it is my goal to both bring light and hope to individuals stircken by the most unfortunate of situations and also to provide a once-in-a-lifetime oppurtunity for local Portsmouth youth, hopefully inspiring them to seek to do service and be open minded- notions which are likely to manifest in our local community.  I hope whole heartedly that Portsmouth and surroudning towns will back our endeavour.  We are in no position to tackle these problems alone and are in great need of funding and support to pay Kiya Survivors for supplies,  accomodations, and internal travel.  We must raise enough money to ensure the success of our bold goals.
Anything you wish to donate is appreciated more than you can imagine. Together, we CAN change lives.
