pop-up compassion:kits for homeless

$1,738 of $900 goal

Hi, my name is Grace and these are my sisters, Claire and Kate. We noticed a lot of people are alone and unfortunate on the street.  It's a heartbreaking situation. But we realized we can help them!  A simple care package can greatly alter a person's comfort and health while living on the streets. We have researched the most needed items for the homeless and we are compiling gift bags containing these important elements. Each bag will contain a variety of nutritious foods, hygiene items, socks, and health aids. We are also including a handwritten note, and a simple meditation tecnique provided by our sponsers at the Pop-up Zendo.  My sisters and I will be personally delivering these gifts, before Christmas, with a smile.
We estimate that each bag will cost $20 to make. Please consider sponsoring a few bags for the homeless. We are very grateful for your support of our efforts to comfort these people who are down on their luck.

Last Saturday, 30 large compassion kits were distributed to the homeless. Another 4 kits were delivered during the week. The kits were very complete and represented almost all items suggested by homeless outreach and blogs. Some highlights: two multi packs of socks, fungal cream, Zantac, tuna, trail mix, various protein bars, chicken salad, dental floss, toothpaste, fresh baked cookies, oranges, Aleve, a hand written holiday wish, a complete resource guide and many, many more items.

Special thanks to all our wonderful friends who came to pack bags and distribute them. This was a team effort. Thank you all!!

The people we met, who accepted our bags, were often initially guarded, but extremely touched and grateful. We noticed that their life is unsafe, all the time.

Being homeless is unbelievably difficult and these people are suffering. We saw people of all ages, including children, teens, pregnant women, and the elderly.

Towards the end of the day, we arrived at an encampment under the highway. We were quickly overwhelmed by the sheer number of people living there-- several hundred at least. There were shanties and tents extending for a quarter mile. Some dwellings were hidden in a drainage ditch, others behind piles of trash.

We knew immediately we didn’t bring enough bags. The need is tremendous. So stay tuned! It is our intention, along with the partnership of the Pop-up Zendo, to distribute to the homeless every few months.

May all being be happy

Thank you for making this outreach possible.

We are so grateful for your support and shares.
Because of your generosity, each bag will contain many more items than initially imagined. Stay tuned for photos.
This Sunday, at 12:00, we will be assembling the compassion kits and then distributing them around 3. You are welcome to join us, just pm my mom. Also, it's my birthday, so there will be a cake and snacks while we assemble the bags :)

Thank you again!
