Poor People's March on Washington

This summer marks the 50th anniversary of the 1968 Poor People’s March on Washington. This effort, organized by Martin Luther King, Jr., brought poor people together from around the country to demand economic justice. Upon reaching D.C., this multiracial movement set up Resurrection City so that the issues of the poor could no longer be ignored. To observe this anniversary and to highlight what we call ‘The Ugly Road’ walked by the poor in the U.S. and abroad everyday, the Poor People’s Economic Human Rights Campaign (PPEHRC) is organizing the 2018 Poor People’s March on Washington, D.C. On June 2nd, poor families and individuals and their supporters from across the United States (and abroad) will come together in Kensington, Philadelphia – the poorest district in Philadelphia – to march to Washington, D.C. to set up Resurrection City on the National Mall on June 12th.  To learn more, go to: http://economichumanrights.org/2018-poor-peoples-march/.

In order to build this movement we need your help! We are also collecting resources in order to bring together marchers from as many states in the U.S. as possible. These participants will not only offer critical knowledge about issues affecting and organizing related to poor people in their home states, but will bring what they learn from the March back to their local communities. For examples of what your contribution would mean:

A gift of $10 would get extra socks for 5 Marchers

A gift of $30 would provide a portable phone charger for Marchers to share

A gift of $50 would supply a water tank for Marchers

A gift of $75 would supply a special needs Marcher with an individual pop-up tent

A gift of $148.00 would enable a Marcher from Jackson, MI to get to Philadelphia by bus

A gift of $500 would supply all Marchers with t-shirts

Also, please consider joining the Poor People’s March on Washington, D.C. by signing up  (to join us for a day or the entire time) and/or endorsing the March .
