Pollinating Vancouver

We have a story.


It's the future. Food supplies are scarce. The Earth has become an almost barren, lifeless, and infertile land. When we needed them the most, they were gone. Millions dead. No more. Disappeared. Vanished. Extinct.


And it looks like we're next.


Sometimes, people think. "How could this happen?" "Why did it happen?" "Why didn't anyone do something?" We have an answer.


Honeybees, by pollinating, help make up 1/3 of the food that you have ever eaten. And not just your food. If bees were to go extinct and die out, a massive amount of other species would follow, of starvation. Bees are just not appreciated for what they do.


Bees aren't just annoying stings. In fact, the Honeybees are one of the most important links of the food chain. If they die out, the rest of the food chain would go into chaos. Plant-eating animals, such as cows and chickens, would begin to die out from the lack of pollinated plants. Meat eating species such as ourselves that depend on these herbivores would suffer greatly. Our large array of foods to choose from would shrink dramatically, whittled down to foods like bread, corn, and potatoes (which don't sound that bad, but when you start eating it every day, it gets pretty boring).


What we're trying to do is to help out our local bees as much as possible. We're not scientists--so we don't know how to solve the entire problem. We're not science prodigies that can save the world. We're just three high schoolers that are doing what we can. But no matter how little we help, it can make all the difference.


What your money is going into is building pollination gardens in the Greater Vancouver area. This will help provide nutrition to nearby bees and butterflies colonies. It may seem small, but one colony leads to another. Soon, bees will be more involved and seen in our local environment.


Since you've read this, we have accomplished the first step of our goal: Spreading the Message. If all of us do what we can, we will have no problem saving the bees.
